Mark Wahlberg, J.K. Simmons, John Goodman and Kevin Bacon go on a manhunt for the Boston Marathon bombers in the new trailer for “Patriots Day.”
The film is based on the true story of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. In the aftermath of the attack, police sergeant Tommy Saunders (Wahlberg) joins survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again.
“We’ve got to decide who is running this, and we have to decide quickly,” says a voice, to which another responds, “It’s terrorism.”

Weaving together the stories of Special Agent Richard DesLauriers (Bacon), Police Commissioner Ed Davis (Goodman), Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (Simmons) and nurse Carol Saunders (Michelle Monaghan), the film takes viewers inside the manhunt for those responsible.
Co-stars also include Melissa Benoist, Alex Wolff, Themo Melikidze, James Colby, Michael Beach, Rachel Brosnahan, Christopher O’Shea, Jake Picking, Jimmy O. Yang, Vincent Curatola and Khandi Alexander.

Peter Berg, who has teamed with Wahlberg on “Lone Survivor” and “Deepwater Horizon,” directed the film, in addition to co-writing the screenplay with Matt Cook and Joshua Zetumer. Berg developed the story along with Cook, Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson.
“Patriots Day” opens in Boston, New York and Los Angeles on Dec. 21 and nationwide on Jan. 13.
