Billy Crudup has been cast in the male lead role in Netflix’s psychological thriller series “Gypsy,” starring Naomi Watts, TheWrap has learned.
Watts will star as Jean Holloway, a therapist who begins to develop dangerous and intimate relationships with the people in her patients’ lives.
Crudup will play Jean’s husband Michael.

Sam Taylor-Johnson (“Fifty Shades of Grey”) will direct the first two of the show’s 10 one-hour episodes.
Liza Chasin and Lisa Rubin will executive produce the Netflix series from Universal Television and Working Title. Rubin will also serve as the writer. Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Andrew Stearn and Watts will also serve as executive producers.
The series is set for a 2017 premiere.

Crudup was most recently seen in Best Picture Oscar winner “Spotlight” and has wrapped filming the “Alien” sequel “Alien: Covenant.” He is represented by CAA and Lighthouse Management.
