Couponing is big business. Many savvy shoppers won’t make a purchase unless they have a coupon in hand. As with most things today, if it is trendy someone has found a way to make money from it. Here are some great ways to make money sharing coupons and online discount codes.

CouponChief

I have been sharing online coupon codes on this revenue-sharing site for a few years now. With their Pays-2-Share program I receive a percentage of the affiliate commission whenever someone uses the codes I have added to the site. You have to act fast when you come across a new code to a popular store sometimes but it takes less than a minute to add codes to the site. Payment is by check with a $25 minimum.

Deals Plus

This is another deal-oriented revenue-sharing site but this one pays per thousand impressions as opposed to per sale. According to the site, here is how it breaks down:

Post a Deal: $3 per 1,000 views until any updates are made, revenue is then split with the updating user

Update a Deal: $1.50 per 1,000 views

Post a Topic: $3 per 1000 views

Post a Coupon: $3 per 1,000 views with a $30 maximum payment

With the exception of Topics earnings cease after one year or two updates. Payments are made once per month by PayPal with a $25 minimum. If you are a blogger you can install their widget on your site for additional earnings.

Sell them on eBay

When it comes to physical coupons there is a big market on eBay. However, eBay did change their policies last year. You can read them here.

Start Your Own Blog

I love shopping-centric blogs. Creating a large successful site takes time, and coupon blogs can be especially time intensive. Find a little niche you love before trying to post all the deals all the time. You’ll be overwhelmed otherwise. Trust me. To start a coupon blog you will need a few things.

A domain name. I recommend GoDaddy. Right now they have $1.49 .coms available.

Reliable hosting. I recommend HostGator to newbies. Use code 1CENT to get your first month for a penny.

Good content. Before any company will pay you they will want to see you are offering useful content and growing a community. I’d start with evergreen posts that are usable long-term. These are posts that can be shared on social media indefinitely. Write. Write. Write.

Affiliate programs. There are some great networks targeting coupon and family-friendly blogs.

VigLink – Always a favorite recommendation for new bloggers. They will take care of affiliate linking for you and share the commissions.

Escalate Media – A must-have in my book. They offer both traditional printable coupons and “freebie” offers that everyone loves. Payment is monthly by PayPal with a $25 minimum.

ShopHer – Formerly MySavings Media, their offers are similar to Escalate. Payment is by check or PayPal monthly with a $50 minimum.

Moms Affiliate – I only recently got involved with this network but they offer sponsored posts, affiliate offers and giveaway opportunities for moms.

ShareASale – SAS has a feature that lets you pull up all of the available coupons and deals from your advertisers and those across the network. Several merchants even offer occasional cash bonuses for posting their offers or sharing their affiliate program with others.

Blurb - $10 referral bonus

Craftsy - $10 referral bonus

Gazelle - $10 referral bonus

Madison Reed – $10 referral bonus

ModCloth - $10 referral bonus

Amazon – You can’t overlook the Amazon Associate program. This is perhaps the largest, most trusted online retailer. They offer competitive prices, a lot of ways to save and they make the most of their upsells.

Where Can I Find Coupons?

If you are posting coupons for retailers for which you are an affiliate you do need to read the policies. Some prohibit the sharing of coupons other than those made available to affiliates (and always ask your affiliate manager if unique, branded coupons are available to affiliates – this is a cool way to spread the word about your blog). For the other opportunities we spoke about above however, here are some great places to find unique coupon codes for sharing.

Leave your shopping cart. Have you ever started a purchase and changed your mind only to have a coupon code arrive in your email an hour or two later? Share them.

Check social media profiles of your favorite stores.

Receipts. Many stores print coupon codes for your next visit or for completing a customer service survey on their receipts. Even if you don’t plan to use them yourself you can share them with others for some extra cash.

Event tickets are another thing that also frequently has coupons printed on them.

Your smartphone apps. If you are using some of the money-making apps we have discussed recently there are probably quite a few coupon codes waiting for you.

Those are a few of my favorite ways to make money sharing coupons. How about you?
