I recently wrote a post of ideas to make $100 per day from home. That got me thinking about ways for teens to make money. They need money too, right?

The following list includes ways high school and college kids can start earning money today. These are more teen business ideas than traditional store clerk employment that require an interview process and wait period for a paycheck. This list will have you making money today, provided you are willing to pick up the phone and market your services.

Mowing Yards – This is always a profitable and highly sought after service.

Babysitting – Rather than worrying about your plans for Friday and Saturday night, pick up a few babysitting gigs once or twice per month. After school sitting is also an option depending on your schedule.

Tutoring – This gig pays well and you may be able to pick up clients on your own or through school referrals.

Shovel snow

Landscaping, such as weeding, raking and trimming

Clear gutters

Auto detailing – This is another service than can be expensive to get done personally. You can offer your clients a much more affordable option.

Clean windows – Fall is coming. That means people will want to do one more deep cleaning before the holidays. Window cleaning is always at the top of that list.

Housecleaning – Offer to come in once per week to do the dusting, vacuuming and sweeping.

Holiday decorating – As the holiday season approaches think about those services as well. Help people in your neighborhood get ready for visitors by bringing out and putting up the seasonal decorations.

Petsitting

Create Websites – If you are web savvy you may be able to pick up work creating websites for local businesses.

Sell Your Crafts – I know kids as young as 6 selling their handcrafted gifts and accessories. If you love creating, sell off a few extras face-to-face, at tradeshows or online.

Errand Service – If you have busy families or elderly in your neighbor offer errand services. You can pick up their mail, run to the store, grab their dry cleaning on your way home from school.

Recycle Service – If you are already cleaning out garages and taking the garage out for your elderly neighbors, ask if you can keep those empty cans and bottles for recycling.

Online Consignment – your friends likely need some extra cash too. Offer to sell their wares and keep a cut of the profits.

Don’t overlook non-traditional ways to make money as a teen. You may find you have far less competition offering to mow yards than getting that job at the mall. And you will have a lot more flexibility and freedom too!

What teen business ideas would you add to the list?
