The Wise Baby
The Wise Baby - The Definitive Baby Blog

It high time for a baby registry guide update!  Today, we are updating one of our personal favorite guides, the Urban Baby Registry Guide.  For the past 10 months we have been immersed in researching how to survive in the urbanest or urban environments as we have lived in a 1,000 SF apartment in Manhattan.  Sure, we lived in Chicago before so definitely understood the urban lifestyle but this new Urban Baby Registry Guide is full of products that have small footprints and can be folded down easily for storage when not in use.  Like the beloved, Fisher Price Jumperoo, while its footprint is large it collapses in half for easy moving room to room or storage. Even if you aren’t in an Urban environment, this registry guide could be for you – it is full of space saving products you’re sure to love!

Don’t forget to print off the guide for even easier registering – see the printable, HERE! (and at the bottom of the post)

Other posts you should check out if you are an urbanite: Best Urban Strollers, Baby Registry Advice, How can I have less baby gear? and product reviews.  We have also included posts as a reference throughout the registry guide.

Urban Baby Registry Guide

Car Seats

Infant Car Seat:  Peg Perego Prima Viaggo 4-35 (we pick this one because of its lightweight, European belt path which makes it easy and safe to install without a base i.e., cabs and zip cars and its excellent safety ratings)
Convertible Car Seat: you may want to hold off on registering for one as they take up lots of space or return this and save the gift card for future purchase but if you are in/out of taxi’s go with the Combi Corroco, if you have a car check out the  Clek Foonf, review.
Optional: Additional bases for infant seat

Car Seat accessories

Travel mirror (if you own a car): Brica Travel mirror
Seasonal:  7am Enfant Cocoon (this goes over the infant seat)

Strollers

if you are only getting one: 2015 UppaBaby Vista

if you want a super lightweight and nimble option: Baby Jogger City Mini GT
Optional:  infant car seat stroller adapter (the Vista comes with a bassinet but the car seat adapter is really handy to have for on the go)

Stroller accessories

Skip Hop Stroller organizer, review

7am Enfant 212 Evolution, review (a must for NYC-ers and/or those without cars)

Other gear

Bassinet: Arms Reach Co-Sleeper Mini, review

Pack N Play: BabyBjorn Travel Crib, review

1 – 3 sheets for travel crib

Baby Carrier: ERGObaby Four Position 360 Baby Carrier

Soft Baby Carrier: Solly Baby Wrap (while two carriers may seems excessive, the Solly Wrap is great for around the house and the newborn days)

Feeding

High Chair: Stokke Tripp Trapp complete set (a booster type seat is an option, too but I am picking the Tripp Trapp here because lets face it, urbanites don’t have the luxury of a dining room, this keeps all of your chairs free for guests and other family members and grows with your child, ps, the pieces are sold individually so make sure you get the tray and baby seat, too ), review

4 – 6 (8 oz)  Bottles: Dr. Brown’s Wide Neck

4 – 6 (4 oz) Bottles: Dr. Brown’s Wide Neck

Various sized nipples to grow with baby
The Wise Tip: Register for a gift set of bottles, it’s a great starter set and people are more apt to give a “set” versus individual items.
Optional: Dishwasher basket, drying rack, bottle sterilizer, sterilizer bags

4 – 8 burp cloths: aden+anais burpy bibs (doubles as bibs too!)

Feeding/Nursing Pillow: Boppy Nursing pillow (review)

Breastfeeding (if applicable)

Breast pump: Medela – check with your insurance company as the Affordable Care Act is requiring most, if not all insurance companies to cover the cost of breast pumps.
Brest pump accessories:  on-the-go tote, cooler, sterilizing bags

At least one extra set of breastpump tubes, cones, membranes and any other necessary parts

Breast Milk Storage Bags: Medela

50 – 100 Breast pads (disposable): Medela

1-2 set of Bamboobies reusable breast pads (it is good to have some of both on hand)

Nipple cream:  Earth Mama Angel Baby Nipple butter or Lansinoh Lanolin (be careful, this stains clothing, sheets, basically any fabric)

2 – 4 Nursing bras: Bravado Designs, The Dairy Fairy
Check out our breastpump reviews and breastfeeding section for more information on breastfeeding.

Diapers & Accessories

Assume 10-12 per day, the average baby wears newborn diapers for 3-5 weeks (up to 10lbs)

100 – 150 newborn diapers: Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive

4 – 6 boxes of Baby Wipes: Pampers Sensitive

Diaper Rash Cream: Aquaphor, Desitin, Earth Mama Angel Baby Butt butter
Diaper Bag

Diaper Bag accessories: travel size wipes, changing pad, scented diaper sacks, hand sanitizer, antibacterial wipes, pacifier wipes, etc
Skip Hop Pronto Changing Station (for diaper bag and stroller)
If you are considering cloth diapering, check out our guide to cloth diapering

2-3 fitted crib sheets

2-3 waterproof crib pads: Sealy Stain Protection Crib Mattress Pad

1-2 Mid-weight blankets/stroller blankets: Pottery Barn Chamois Stroller Blanket

4-6 receiving/swaddling blankets:  aden + anais Muslin Swaddle Wrap

Sleeping

2-4 Wearable blankets: Miracle Blankets and/or Halo Sleepsacks
Wise tip: Register for a couple different types/sizes and see which your baby prefers

Nightlight

White noise machine:  Dohm White Noise machine, review

Crib attachment entertainer: Baby Einstein Sea Dreams Soother

Baby Soothers & Entertainment

Swing/Soother: BabyBjorn Balance, review (we choose this Baby Bjorn option because of its small footprint and ability to fold and store easily + we love it)

Activity Jumper: Fisher Price Jumperoo (These things do take up a ton of space but they are really worth it as a safe, fun place to put a newly mobile, ready to explore the world infant. We choose the Jumperoo because it does break down easily and collapses for storage)

Baby Seat:  Mamas & Papas Baby Snug, review (however, you could eliminate this from the registry as it is really not a necessity although, nice to have)
Optional: Baby Snug play tray

2-4 Pacifiers: Philips AVENT Soothie-0-6 mos and/or MAM, sometimes it takes a couple tries for your little one to decide which pacifier they like

Layette*

Brands suggestions: Carter’s, Gerber and Kissy Kissy
