The Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) Society
of the
Philippines
officially opened the 5th CFA Institute Research Challenge (IRC)
through a Kick-off meeting at the Top of the Citi by Chef Jessie in
Makati
City
.
Led by Ms. April Lynn Tan, CFA, CFAP President,
the event provided the significant information and materials pertinent to this
year’s IRC including the revelation of the chosen subject company, Puregold
Price Club, Inc. represented by Investor Relations Officer Mr. Jimmy Perez.; the
introduction of the industry mentors; and the competition rules.
Puregold Price Cub was chosen by CFA
Philippines to be this year’s chosen subject company because of Puregold’s
positive earnings growth outlook, good quality corporate disclosures, and
accessibility, earning a spot as one of Top 500 Retailers in the ASPAC region.
The IRC, organized by CFA Institute, is a
global competition that aims to educate the market in fundamental research
analysis. Ms.
April Tan, CFA shares, “We strongly believe the IRC will benefit the students
as future investment professionals. As they go through the Challenge, they will
be able to interact with industry experts and get real-world experience in
equity analysis, research report writing and presentation skills. At the same
time, the investment industry will benefit as we help produce the next
generation of globally competitive finance and investment professionals with a
strong sense of integrity, committed to standards of excellences and ethics.”
Participating this year are Ateneo de Manila
University (ADMU), De La Salle University-Dasmarinas (DLSU-D), De La Salle
University-Manila (DLSU-M), San Beda College (SBC), Southville Foreign University
(SFU), University of the Philippines-Visayas (UP-V), and University of Santo
Tomas (UST).
Mentoring the teams are Mr. Mark Canizares for
UP- Visayas; Mr. Alexis Cabel for UST; Mr. Albert Pulido for DLSU-Dasmarinas;
Dr. Raymund Abara, CFA for SBC; Mr. Ernesto Francisco, Jr., CFA for SFU; Mr.
George Ching for DLSU-Manila; and Ms. Kelly Bate for ADMU.
The
winning team will get the chance to represent the country in the regional challenge
to be held at
Kuala Lumpur
,
Malaysia
on February
22-23, 2013. The regional winner will
get to compete with top-notch schools in the global finals which will be held in
London
,
United
Kingdom
on April 12, 2013.
