OHIO CITY — The Ohio City Blue Ribbon Workers held a meeting May 4 at the Lutheran Church in Ohio City.

After the meeting was called to order and pledges recited, past meeting notes were read and discussions began on upcoming events.  A car wash to raise funds for members to attend 4-H camp this summer was discussed. It will be held June 3 and 4, from 4-8 p.m., at Auto Zone. There will be two shifts; the first is 4-6 p.m. and the second one is 6-8 p.m.

Members were given 4-H chicken barbecue tickets to sell to the community. This is a yearly fundraiser that helps support Van Wert County 4-H .The dinner is June 10, and the drive-thru/dine-in barbecue dinner will be served from 3:30-7 p.m. at the Van Wert County Fairgrounds. Drive in off Fox Road. The cost of the meal is $8 per person; contact any member for tickets. Chris Kraner, club president, reminded the group that members should be currently working on their project books, gearing toward the judging date of July 17 at Van Wert Middle School.

Demonstrations for the May 4 meeting were completed by Dakota Thomas on how to make a turtle using a bottle cap and paper, while David May’s demonstration was on how to make a homemade bird feeder, and Colt Marbaugh demonstrated his trapping hobby using real trapping equipment.

Health and Safety team Thomas and Marbaugh instructed the group on first aid.

Lauren Walls and Tiffany Ricketts supplied refreshments, while the group also brainstormed on barbecue chicken posters to advertise the event and then created the posters.

4-H officer training was recently held for the county groups, and those in attendance from the Ohio City group included Makenzie Bowen, Alexa Gearhart, Chris and Hannah Kraner, Abbie Marbaugh, Colt Marbaugh, Leslie Marbaugh, Draya Rison and Dakota Thomas.

The fundraising litter pick-up for Liberty Township was held April 6 with a record 100 percent participation from members and their families.

The group’s next meeting will be at the church on May 18.
