Coquitlam’s Place des Arts is going back in time to 1977 – get ready to shake your groove thang!
The local arts centre and music school presents its 4th Annual Gala Fundraiser, Impromptu: Disco Fever, on Saturday, October 18, 2014. A VIP Champagne Reception kick starts the event at 6:00pm, while the rest of the festivities begin at 7:00pm at the centre. Everyone is invited – and encouraged – to slither into their white Travolta jump suit, their gold glitter gown or their finest party-wear and get set to do the hustle. Guests will be dazzled as Place des Arts transforms into the most famous night club of all time: New York City’s Studio 54!
Past attendees to Impromptu eagerly await each year’s event for its lively combination of interactive theatre, dance, music, delicious canapés and yummy cocktails, plus the chance to bid on exciting live and silent auction items. It’s great fun for a great cause. Realtor Donna Tays, who has attended all previous Impromptu fundraisers, says, “Impromptu is most definitely a NOT-TO-BE-MISSED event! The night is infused with great food, local celebrity, dancing, music and an up-close-and-personal dramatic play. I go to give and end up getting so much back in return.”
For the full experience, a limited number of VIP tickets are available and include access to the Champagne Reception in the VIP Lounge featuring exclusive entertainment, canapés and complimentary champagne, plus two drink tickets.
Impromptu isn’t all champagne and glamour, though. This twist on immersive theatre is all in support of a great cause. Since 2011, Place des Arts’ supporters have helped raise over $35,000 towards its arts education programs, which have made it possible for Place des Arts to inspire the artist in everyone by:
Helping the community’s low-income families and children access the arts through subsidized children’s visual and performing arts programs at Place des Arts;
Providing talented local youth with the chance to shine through new performance opportunities;
Engaging youth to become leaders in the arts community through Place des Arts’ Youth Arts Council;
Enriching the lives of local children and their families through free Family Day at PdA events, featuring hands-on, artist-led workshops.
New funds raised this year will help Place des Arts continue to build these programs and provide more accessible arts education opportunities to even more people in the local community.

Early bird tickets are on sale until September 30, 2014 and are $50 for general admission or $80 for the VIP experience, so get them while you can. After September 30 the price goes up to $60 for general admission or $90 for the VIP package.
