What:  Port Moody Youth Arts Festival
When:  Friday, July 4 and Saturday, July 5 from 4:30pm onwards
Where:  Inlet Theatre, Port Moody Civic Centre, 100 Newport Drive (map)
The skinny: Port Moody’s 3rd annual youth arts fest gets up and running on the Inlet Theatre stage this weekend. Tickets are free (donations accepted at the door) and give admission to the Fun Zone from 5pm as well as the performances each night. The performances over two nights include spoken word, bands, dance and film, with different performers each night. Register for your event wristbands on the Arts Centre website. And don’t forget the food trucks on site from 4:30pm – make an evening of it!

What: Music on the Grill
When:  Friday, July 4 and Saturday, July 5 from 6:30 – 10:00pm
Where:  Evergreen Cultural Centre, 1205 Pinetree Way (map)
The skinny:  Oh me, oh my! The Tri Cities’ sophisticated patio entertainment series kicks off for a sixth year with Jim Byrnes and Babe Gurr playing a two-nighter for Music on the Grill’s opener. Enjoy fine dining on the patio barbecue, listen to the fusion of food with entertainment, then retire to the studio theatre for the main event. Tickets $52 including dinner, or $32 for the concert only.

What: Gardening Basics

The skinny:  Two classes in elementary gardening from Coquitlam’s Inspiration Garden for this Saturday – learn about plants for shade in the morning class, and find out about planting up flower and succulents containers for your deck in the afternoon. What: Village Vibe Performing Arts Series

The skinny:  The City of Port Coquitlam invites you to step out in a dance every Saturday this July. The popular and buzzing Village Vibe series of free summer entertainment kicks off this Saturday with a dance month. Today’s event features dance displays from Mellado Dance Elite and the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society among others, to inspire and get your tootsies tapping. Next week, the format changes and it’s you that will be dancing. With a series of free demos and lessons, there’s no excuse now. This summer you will dance!

The skinny:  Port Moody shakes off its winter leggings and bares its knees with the start of the Summer Sundays concert season in the park. Listen from your deckchair as the blues, reggae, soul, funk and more wash over you. Summer – it’s hard to resist. Free admission.
