Climbing trees is a standard activity for young children who love to play outside. However, this six-year-old boy from Duplin County in North Carolina found himself a bit too high up and had to be rescued by a fire brigade. He scaled a 50-foot tree for fun and a cherry picker had to be used to retrieve him. The little boy didn´t realise how high he climbed and became stranded among the branches. After having difficulty climbing down, his parents were forced to call Faison Fire and Rescue. The boy stayed still in the tree while the firefighters

New York — Andrew Cuomo has pledged $200m to help make HIV and Aids a thing of the past in New York, the governor announced on Monday, the eve of World Aids Day. Cuomo will attend an event at the legendary Apollo Theater in New York City’s Harlem neighborhood on Tuesday morning to mark World Aids Day, and to discuss progress and concerns in the fight against the disease. A symbol of a tiny salt shaker warning that certain meals are high in sodium will appear on menus in chain restaurants in New York City from this week. The move makes New York the first US city to use salt labelling in an effort to combat heart disease and stroke. Any menu item containing more than one teaspoon of salt must display the emblem of a salt shaker in a black triangle. One teaspoon is equal to 2,300 milligrams (0.08 oz) of sodium, the daily limit many nutritionists recommend. The measure unanimously approved by the New York City Board of Health

The Obama administration is boosting the amount of corn-based ethanol and other renewable fuels in the U.S. gasoline supply despite sustained opposition by an unusual alliance of oil companies, environmentalists and some GOP presidential candidates. The Environmental Protection Agency on Monday issued a final rule designed to increase production of ethanol to be blended with gasoline through 2016, a decision that could reverberate in Iowa´s crucial presidential caucuses. The agency said it will require more than 18 billion gallons of renewable fuels in 2016, most of it ethanol. The amount is less than was set in a 2007 renewable fuels law

Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi has criticised a headmaster who banned Christmas concerts and carols in his school near Milan in the name of multiculturalism. “Christmas is much more important than a headmaster being provocative,” Renzi told Sunday’s edition of Corriere della Sera. “If he thinks he is promoting integration and co-existence in this way, he appears to me to have made a very big mistake.” (Snip) “Last year we had a Christmas concert and some parents insisted on having carols. The Muslim children didn’t sing, they just stood there, absolutely rigid. “It is not nice watching a child not singing,

Trenton — The head of a New Jersey gun rights group says he´s dismayed at the lack of action by Gov. Chris Christie in the five months since the governor announced he was forming a commission to ensure the state´s laws and regulations “do not infringe on New Jerseyans´ constitutional rights” to bear arms. There was no holiday miracle in the Bronx’s Little Italy Saturday as vagrants continued to intimidate families and disrupt businesses in and around the park where Christmas has been canceled. With cops nowhere to be seen, four bums sipped King Cobra malt liquor and whiskey while splayed out on benches in the once-family-friendly Ciccarone Park, only a day after The Post reported the annual Christmas tree lighting had to be scrapped because of a soaring panhandler population. (Snip) Nearby, three homeless women divvied up garbage bags stuffed with bottles, while 55-year-old chain-smoking vagrant Francisco Leql ducked behind

New Orleans police were hunting Friday (Nov. 27) for Joseph “Moe” Allen, 32, the first suspect to be named in the Bunny Friend Park shooting that injured 17 people. And they are pleading for people who were at the Upper 9th Ward playground to come forward with information. Despite the crowds at the park when the gunfire erupted Sunday evening, no one there had sent videos to police, Mayor Mitch Landrieu said. “And everyone knows there are lots,” he said. Vagrants are urinating in the street, hassling passers-by for cash — and now they’ve ruined Christmas in The Bronx. The annual outdoor Christmas tree lighting in the borough’s famed Little Italy section was canceled because the soaring panhandler population forced the sponsors to spend so much on security that there was no cash left for the celebration. “It’s unfortunate,” Frank Franz, treasurer of the Belmont Business Improvement District, told The Post. “It was a very expensive event, so we canceled it.” The BID, he said, had to weigh the price of public safety against that of the holiday festivities, which cost about $15,000.

Britain is at risk of being prosecuted for war crimes because of growing evidence that missiles sold to Saudi Arabia have been used against civilian targets in Yemen’s brutal civil war, Foreign Office lawyers and diplomats have warned. Advisers to Philip Hammond, the Foreign Secretary, have stepped up legal warnings that the sale of specialist missiles to the Saudis, deployed throughout nine months of almost daily bombing raids in west Yemen against Houthi rebels, may breach international humanitarian law. Since March this year, bombing raids and a blockade of ports imposed by the Saudi-led coalition of Sunni Gulf states have

Minutes before, Ryder had been in the back seat of an overturned vehicle that struck a tree off the side of Highway 198 in Visalia. Spicer, a retired California Highway Patrol officer and head of security for Adventist Health in the central San Joaquin Valley, spotted the wreck Saturday morning, pulled over, and was handed a dead baby. As America speeds closer to the first primary elections, supporting Donald Trump increasingly requires a suspension of disbelief. It requires believing, for example, that, when he said of Fox News’ Megyn Kelly that she had “blood coming out of her wherever” (when she was questioning him during a debate) that he wasn’t suggesting anything untoward or misogynistic. It requires believing that when he said the American public won’t put Republican candidate Carly Fiorina in the White House, because “look at that face!” that he was not commenting on her attractiveness. And it requires believing that when he holds his arms

Obama was one of 147 world leaders given a three-minute slot at the COP21 conference to outline their vision for the future of the planet. The president of the free world, however, had other ideas. More than eight and a half minutes into Obama´s address — and with no sign he was stopping soon — three beeps sounded across the auditorium, clearly audible to everyone present

I was a pro football fan as a boy back in the 1960s, when our local TV station in South Dakota featured Chicago Bears and, later, Green Bay Packers games. After that, for a long time I rarely watched a pro football game. This year, not being as busy as in the past, I have seen more NFL games than in any recent season. Yesterday I was home nursing a cold, and caught both the Vikings-Falcons game and the Patriots-Broncos game. Based on this year’s experience, I have concluded that penalties, along with endless video reviews of plays, have made the

At a campaign rally in Sarasota, Florida today, Donald Trump insisted that he would “never’ mock anyone for their disability, let alone a New York Times reporter. In case you haven’t caught up yet, here’s the basics: Trump said something untrue about Muslims cheering in New Jersey on 9/11, people called him out on it, Trump decided that one paragraph of a report that in no way backs up what he said actually backs up what he said, the reporter of that story confirmed it does not back up what he said, and Trump responded by mercilessly mocking him. A crocodile snatched and killed a dog Saturday afternoon at Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. A woman was walking her dog, a medium-sized pit bull mix, without a leash when the canine went near the water and the saltwater crocodile grabbed it about 3 p.m., said Lorenzo Veloz, spokesman for the conservation commission. The dog weighed about 20 to 30 pounds, Veloz said. “It was a saltwater crocodile that normally feeds on raccoons and possums that come up to the water for a drink,” Veloz said. “This dog ran up to the water and

Barack Obama is blowing past all signs of caution on the left lanes of the road of American politics. That’s a dog-bites-man headline that by now is common knowledge. He no longer cares what Americans think of his leadership. His “my way or the highway” handling of the Syrian refugee crisis, which could endanger the homeland, seals it. Though he gave Iran’s stony-faced mullahs all they wanted and more in his nuclear deal, he has dispensed with even pretending to accommodate the concerns to several governors in his scheme to settle thousands of foreign refugees on their soil. A federal program, once launched, is impossible to kill. It doesn’t matter if the scheme wastes money. It doesn’t matter if the program doesn’t work. It doesn’t even matter if the program does the very opposite of what it is supposed to do. Among other bizarre allegations in the exhaustive and highly unauthorized examination of the Clintons’ political lives, from their Arkansas days to today, is that Bill had the hots for former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
