The loner accused of the Friday rampage at a Colorado Planned Parenthood clinic appeared to have lived a manic second life online — he wrote apocalyptic ramblings, begged for pot-smoking companions and posted an ad for “discreet” sadomasochistic sex. A username apparently connected to Robert Lewis Dear, who is accused of fatally shooting three people, may shed light on the dark side of a man who was a mystery to many until he allegedly opened fire in the Colorado Springs clinic. The user posted a series of paranoid, Biblical rants on the message boards for Cannabis.com nearly a decade ago.

A suspected burglar who attempted to enter a California home through the chimney died on Saturday after the homeowner lit a fire without realizing anyone was inside, police said. The man appeared to have climbed into the chimney during the night while the owner was away and then became stuck, according to the Fresno County Sheriff´s Office. After the owner of the home in Huron lit a fire in his fireplace Saturday afternoon, he heard a man yelling inside the chimney as the house filled with smoke, the sheriff´s office said in a statement. The homeowner tried to extinguish the

BERLIN – Hundreds of refugees fought each other on Sunday in a mass brawl at a Berlin shelter and more than 100 police were called in to restore order, in an episode underlining the challenges Germany faces in handling hundreds of thousands of migrants. Although violent incidents in such centers are frequent, the chaos in the shelter at Berlin´s disused Tempelhof airport, which erupted as lunch was being served, was worse than normal. NORMANDY, Mo. — Michael Brown once told an uncle that the world would know his name one day, and he was right. Fifteen months after the black 18-year-old´s killing by a white Ferguson police officer made him a key figure in the debate over the treatment of blacks by U.S. law enforcement, though, Brown lies buried in relative obscurity. Brown is among the most notable residents of 160-year-old St. Peter´s Cemetery, but there is no headstone marking his grave. Instead the burial plot — Section 10, Block F, Lot 12, Grave 4 — is visible only when gazing down at

The start of the Paris climate summit on Monday should be a moment of glory for President Obama. His administration has instituted the country´s first serious action against climate change by requiring dirty coal plants to drastically lower emissions. He played a key role in China´s dramatic attitude shift on climate. His rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline prompted a change of heart in the Canadian province where the tar sands that produce the oil are located; the premier of Alberta has announced that the province will cap greenhouse gas emissions from the tar sands and place new emphasis on

Three men were killed and at least four people have been wounded in shootings since Saturday evening in Chicago, police said. At 12:20 a.m. Sunday, a 27-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman. They were in a parked car in the 5300 block of South Union Avenue when someone exited a dark sedan and fired shots at them. The man was hit in the left side of his body and was pronounced dead on the scene. The woman was grazed in the left hip

Paris – Violence has cast a long shadow over a climate summit opening in Paris on Monday, two weeks after 130 people were killed in a coordinated jihadist onslaught on the French capital. As more than 150 world leaders prepared to meet under heightened security, analysts warned of an increasingly war-torn future facing humanity if they fail to limit global warming. The Paris attacks on November 13 were claimed by the Islamic State group that has a brutal war in Syria — a conflict rooted in part, experts say, on an historic drought from 2006 to 2010. It drove some

On a day usually defined by frenzied bargain hunting, Black Lives Matter protesters thronged downtown Seattle on Friday, calling for police accountability and decrying the deaths of African Americans at the hands of law-enforcement officers. The impassioned and largely peaceful Black Friday event began in the early afternoon and stretched well past dark. An estimated crowd of 700 people at times blocked traffic and tried to force its way into the Westlake Center and Pacific Place malls, only to be turned away by police. The annual tree-lighting ceremony proceeded on schedule, though protesters’ chants often drowned out the musical performers.

By any measure, we are losing the war against ISIS and radical Islam. A bigger problem is we do not yet realize we are losing or why. Their legions are growing, their ambitions are apocalyptic, and our resolve is as strong as silly putty. Colorado Springs, the location of an attack on a Planned Parenthood clinic that left three people dead, is a centre of rightwing Christian culture with a “wild west mentality” when it comes to guns. The attack, by a lone gunman carrying a rifle or shotgun, took place at a clinic that is the site of regular anti-abortion protests by the city’s pro-life Christian groups. Planned Parenthood, aware of hostility about their work, recently moved to the new facility, hoping it would provide more security for staff. The building has been likened to a fortress by anti-abortion campaigners and Friday’s attacks

As of November 23, there had been 2703 shootings which resulted in 440 deaths year-to date in heavily gun-controlled Chicago. That is an increase of approximately 400 shootings over the same time last year. The Chicago Tribune reported these numbers as part of their broader coverage of the 11 people shot, five killed, over the course of last weekend alone. Half of those wounded were shot on November 22 “between about 12:25 p.m. and 8:40 p.m.” Three of those killed were shot on that same day, between those same hours as well. It is worth noting that while this violence

At a campaign rally in Sarasota, Florida today, Donald Trump insisted that he would “never’ mock anyone for their disability, let alone a New York Times reporter. In case you haven’t caught up yet, here’s the basics: Trump said something untrue about Muslims cheering in New Jersey on 9/11, people called him out on it, Trump decided that one paragraph of a report that in no way backs up what he said actually backs up what he said, the reporter of that story confirmed it does not back up what he said, and Trump responded by mercilessly mocking him. Our national debt is near $20 trillion. About 94 million Americans are out of the labor force. Our borders are not secured while sanctuary cities protect foreign criminals. THE presidential candidate who has most harmed American politics this year is Donald Trump, a bully who has prospered by inciting rage. Since launching his presidential run, the 44-year-old Texan has built his campaign around a simple pitch: assuring the most conservative third of the Republican electorate, from born-again Christian voters to hardline members of
