(Video) Hillary Clinton on Wednesday night defended accepting huge speaking fees from Goldman Sachs, arguing that it won’t influence the way she treats the banking industry. Speaking at CNN’s Democratic presidential forum, anchor Anderson Cooper pressed Clinton on whether it had been a mistake for her to reel in more than $200,000 per speech for three speeches to the Wall Street giant. “Look, I made speeches to lots of groups. I told them what I thought. I answered questions,” Clinton said. “But did you have to be paid $675,000?,” Cooper asked. “Well I don’t know,” Clinton responded. “That’s what they

In the unfolding political and legal drama surrounding Hillary Clinton and her private server, one name has been conspicuously missing. Bill Clinton. There has been scant mention of the former president’s possible role and potential exposure in the server/classified material controversy, which now represents an existential threat to Mrs. Clinton’s presidential ambitions. But perhaps his role may be more central that we’ve been led to believe. Rather than simply focusing on Mrs. Clinton’s actions as secretary of state, the FBI investigation may be proceeding along two tracks: his and hers. So far, two areas of focus have been mentioned. One

Donald Trump´s private jet made an emergency landing in Nashville Wednesday afternoon after the pilot reported engine problems, officials said. The Boeing 757 landed in Nashville at 4:40 p.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said. (Tweet/Photo) Trump eventually made it to the event he was attending in Little Rock, Arkansas, but the event started late at 7:45 p.m., more than an hour and a half off schedule. More than 11,500 people attended the event at Barton Coliseum. Speaking about his late arrival, Trump said that it was “rough” getting there, but there was “no way” he would head back to New York

Anderson Cooper was picked by CNN to moderate the Democratic presidential town hall on Wednesday night, despite the fact that he is a former member of Hillary Clinton’s far-reaching and wealthy charity. Cooper was listed as a notable past member of the Clinton Global Initiative, a non-profit charity created by Bill and Hillary Clinton, and which is linked to the scandal-plagued Clinton Foundation. The Foundation said that Cooper and other journalists were not required to pay the mandatory $20,000 fee for such membership. Cooper was relatively tough on Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) 16% at the beginning of the town hall event,

Barack Obama hid the Jesus symbol during his speech at Georgetown. (Photo) But Obama allowed the word “Allah” to be widely displayed during his first speech at a US Islamic Center. From declaring that the United States is no longer a Christian nation to denying Syrian Christians entry into the country President Obama’s distaste for the followers of Jesus are as obvious as the nose on your face. The conservative magazine National Review took credit for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump´s second-place finish in the Iowa caucuses, saying that a recent cover story critical of the billionaire businessman helped stir up opposition to his White House bid. The current issue of the biweekly magazine, which hit newstands last week, features a symposium of conservative figures explaining why Trump is not part of the conservative movement and doesn´t deserve right-leaning voters´ support. Trump, who had earlier lead in most Iowa polls, finished second Monday with 24 percent of the vote, behind Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who received 28 percent.

Government oversight officials informed Congress on Wednesday that the Transportation Security Administration continues to operate in disarray, failing to record basic security details for thousands of employees and not tracking official IDs and badges that allow access to the most sensitive areas of an airport. Lawmakers described the security agency as operating “in chaos” and expressed frustration with Obama administration officials as they informed the House Oversight Committee about a range of security shortfalls that continue to endanger the nation’s 450 commercial airports. TSA’s inability to properly screen and track employees has been well documented for years. However, the administration

Today, President Barack Obama made the first appearance at a U.S. mosque in his seven-year presidency. He and the Council on American-Islamic Relations selected the Islamic Society of Baltimore for the big event. He made some valid points and included some touching moments, but detractors are continuing to rail against his choice of mosques. In 2010, the Islamic Society of Baltimore was placed under FBI surveillance following the arrest of one of its members. The member had been planning to bomb an Army recruiting center near the mosque in Catonsville. According to Investor’s Business Daily, the would-be attacker was 25-year-old convert

Former Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean tried to claim on MSNBC’s Morning Joe Wednesday that Hillary Clinton had never received hundreds of thousands of dollars in speaking fees from colleges, only to be shot down by the show’s executive producer later in the segment. Host Mika Brzezinski first brought up Clinton’s speaking fees, asking whether they’d be a problem when it came to relating to college students. “These kids… will be strapped with $90,000 in debt or $120,000 in debt and she’s making $225,000 in one hour,” she pointed out. But Dean took umbrage at that suggestion. “She’s not

One of the most dangerous effects of Donald Trump´s presidential campaign is the venomous anger his demagoguery has cultivated among his more engaged supporters, to be spewed at anyone who dares to express concern about any of their idol´s (yes, idol´s) soft spots. Just click on any article, on any website, critical of anything about Trump, and navigate to the readers´ comments. First, notice the unusually large number of them. Then observe the tone: rarely logical, thoughtful, or truly argumentative, the Trump defenders (granting honorable exceptions) simply attack — personally, irrelevantly, uncivilly — any writer or fellow commenter, no matter how

DES MOINES, Iowa — Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, a fiery conservative loathed by his own party´s leaders, swept to victory in Iowa´s Republican caucuses Monday, overcoming billionaire Donald Trump and a stronger-than-expected showing by Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. Among Democrats, Bernie Sanders rode a wave of voter enthusiasm to a virtual tie with Hillary Clinton, long considered her party´s front-runner. Cruz´s victory over Trump was a testament to his massive get-out-the-vote operation in Iowa and the months he spent wooing the state´s influential conservative and evangelical leaders. “Iowa has sent notice that the Republican nominee and next president of the United States

Monday night, Iowa’s Republicans made it clear they would not be held responsible for placing their party in the hands of an insult-comedian character assassin — choosing instead exactly the kind of combative conservative the state’s GOP almost always prefers. Also Monday night, Iowa’s Democrats made it clear that the coronation she sought is not in the cards for Hillary Clinton. There’s still no reason to believe she won’t be the party’s eventual nominee. But no matter the regular Democratic spin about how “a win is a win,” the fact that she might have only beaten Bernie Sanders by a

Donald Trump on Wednesday accused Ted Cruz of committing fraud, and called for a new election in Iowa. Ratcheting up his rhetoric after his loss in the Iowa caucuses on Monday, Trump first tweeted an accusation that the Texas senator had “illegally” stolen the election, before tweaking the message. “Ted Cruz didn´t win Iowa, he illegally stole it. That is why all of the polls were so wrong any [sic] why he got more votes than anticipated. Bad!” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning. The tweet disappeared within minutes of posting. He then put up another tweet minutes later, correcting a typo and removing the

In exchange, he promised to spend the next years preparing to push a conservative agenda, including a politically risky plan for entitlement reform, if a Republican wins the presidency in 2017. “I am fine if I lose my

The top three finishers in the Iowa Republican Caucuses told us a lot about themselves in the speeches they gave after the results came in. Donald Trump’s words following his defeat, while uncharacteristically gracious, were remarkable for their brevity. As much as Trump proclaimed that he loved the people of the Hawkeye state so much that he wanted to buy a farm there, he looked like he couldn’t wait to get the hell out as fast as he could and never set foot in Iowa ever again. By contrast, Ted Cruz didn’t want the night to end. And who could blame him?

Around The Daily Beast office, I’m known for my spot-on Bernie Sanders impersonation. To my colleagues, it seems studied, but to me, it’s just familiar. I’ve known Bernies all my life. The same is true for Bernie’s atheism. A recent profile in the The Washington Post, headlined “Why Bernie Sanders doesn’t participate in organized religion,” depicted the senator as possessing a quixotic blend of cultural Judaism, kinda-sorta belief in God, and political idealism. To many Jews, however, this mix is hardly unusual. It’s familiar as chicken soup and matzo: the basically secular, basically atheist Jewish Democratic Socialist, part of the erstwhile 20th-century

I certainly wish that Trump would not insult rivals and newspeople in callous and uncouth fashion. I would prefer that he come prepared to interviews, with detailed positions rather than his banal “Make America great again” refrain, so akin to the “Hope and Change” nothingness. I notice that he often pauses in midsentence, that he interjects “awesome” and “tremendous” ad nauseam, that he completely abandons his original thought and detours to an extraneous
