London will be bustling with fashion admirers this week. Fashion buyers and enthusiasts from alll around the world will be gathering for London Collections Men. This four day event has become a curtain raiser for the annual traditional men’s wear catwalk season. The event has also generated a financial importance for itself as it has become a monetary powerhouse. The opening party was held on the Thursday night. The gathering had around 250 people and it was held at stately Spencer House in St James’s. The evening was hosted by the British Fashion Council’s men’s wear committee.
London Collections Men: Successful and important
Cherishing the success of London Collections Men was a dapperly dressed Dylan Jones. “This is the biggest LCM yet since we started in 2012”, said Dylan Jones, editor of British GQ magazine and the committee’s chairman. “We’ve got 170 designers showing this season and an extra day on the schedule, with a 15 percent spike in buyer attendance from buyers, and editors from 42 countries. The spike in international interest says a great deal — namely that we can compete with Paris and Milan. And that, coupled with the fact major foreign brands like Coach and Moschino are choosing to show here, tells you that London is an essential place to see and be seen when it comes to the men’s wear market”, he further added.
The attendees at the evening included some stalwart names. Jefferson Hack, co-founder of Dazed and Confused magazine was there and he arrived straight from the airport after his Christmas vacation. Model and underwear entrepreneur David Gandy and British artist Tracey Emin were also there. There were discussions and chats among these revered representatives. There was film producer David Furnish who was seen chatting with Will.i.am. None of the guests stayed up till late due to the busy schedule. Many of them did visit designer showrooms at Victoria House in Bloomsbury Square.
Artists gather to celebrate fashion
Highlighting the event were young artists like singer Nick Jonas and the actor Douglas Booth. They sat in the front row for the Topman show. The scheduled opening act will present tailoring talent from Savile Row such as E. Tautz and Richard James. It will also include East London-based young guns such as Christopher Shannon and Jonathan Anderson, and megabrands including Burberry, Alexander McQueen and Dunhill.
London Collections Men has inspired a lot of cities to follow the suit. New York has also joined the league and started with New York Fashion Week: Men’s last July. Caroline Rush, chief executive of the British Fashion Council has also acknowledged and appreciated the grand success of London Collections Men. “There’s a real energy here in London, and the LCM concept has made real waves. We have created an identity and celebration of British men’s fashion where there wasn’t one, boosting the profile of businesses of all ages and stages to give them real commercial clout. We know we’re being noticed now and that’s fantastic. London is the style capital of the world right now”, said Caroline in a statement.
