Last night, Google killed their Nexus line of smartphones and launched a new series called ‘Pixel’, where we have Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. The primary purpose of this series is that Google can finally show their hardware and software prowess much like Apple and control the quality of their products. Hence the use of #MadebyGoogle. The flagship Google smartphones are already on pre-order in US, Australia, Canada and Germany starting at $649 for the 32GB model. India did not feature in the launch day pre-order wave but they are not lagging behind either as the pre-order in the country starts on October 13. We already knew that the pricing starts at Rs 57,000 (Pixel 32GB) but lets find out the price of the other variants as well including the Pixel XL.
As we already know, the Pixel 32GB has been priced at Rs 57,000 whereas the 128GB variant is priced at Rs 66,000. In case of the Pixel XL, the 32GB costs Rs 67,000 and you have to shell out Rs 76,000 for the 128GB variant. Google India will also offer interest free EMI schemes and upgrade offers. Pixel owners in India will have an access to a toll-free phone support number along with 54 walk in service centers in over 30 cities across India. It can be pre-ordered via Flipkart (online) and other multi-brand retail stores including Reliance Digital, Croma, Vijay Sales and more. One disappointing news about the Indian launch is that it will not get the Really Blue color variant. Check out the features and specifications of the smartphones below.
Google Pixel and Pixel XL Specifications
Firstly, let’s talk about the differences between them as they have a lot of similarities. As the name suggests, Pixel XL is the elder brother here and hence comes with a 5.5-inch (2560 x 1440 pixels) Quad HD AMOLED display, that is protected by 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and has a pixel density of 534 PPI. In case of Google Pixel, it rocks a smaller 5.0-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD AMOLED display, that is protected by 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and has a pixel density of 441 PPI. Under the hood, the Pixel rocks a 2,770 mAh battery whereas the XL has a 3,450 mAh battery. Both of them supports a new fast charging tech that gives 7 hours of usage from only 15 minutes of charging and come with a USB-C 18W adaptor with USB-PD in the box. The Pixel weighs 143 grams whereas the XL is slightly heavier at 168 grams, however both of them are 8.5 mm thick.
Now coming to the similarities, both of them are powered by a 2.15 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 (MSM8996) 64-bit processor along with Adreno 530 GPU. They have 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and come with 32 / 128 GB of internal memory, which cannot be expanded further. They run on the latest Android 7.1 Nougat OS out of the box. In the camera department, they have a 12.3 megapixel primary rear camera with LED flash, Sony IMX378 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, 1.55 µm pixel size, PDAF and LDAF. It can record 4K videos. On the front, there is a 8 megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture, Sony IMX179 sensor, 1.4 µm pixel size for selfies and video calling. It can record Full HD 1080p videos. Photos and videos can be backed up in full resolution as Google is providing unlimited cloud storage via Google Photos. Both of them support Single SIM and come with a 3.5 mm audio jack. They have a full metal unibody design made up of glass. There is a fingerprint sensor at the back along with a single bottom-firing speakers and 3 microphones.
Both the Google Pixel and Pixel XL include 4G with VoLTE support, 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band) MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, USB Type-C, NFC and GPS / GLONASS as connectivity options. They are available in Very Silver, Quite Black and Limited Edition US only Really Blue color variants.
