Bar exam applicants planning to attend this February’s North Carolina Bar Examination should disable the touch bar if they come along with Apple’s latest MacBook Pro. The Board of Law Examiners of the State of North Carolina issued the notice as they are afraid that students may use it to cheat.
This is a notice for all applicants who will be using their laptop at the February 2017 North Carolina Bar Examination. If you are planning to use the newest version of the Mac Book Pro with Touch Bar, you will be required to disable the Touch Bar feature prior to entry into the Bar Examination Site.
Test proctors who will be in the examination hall in North Carolina have been instructed to keep an observation for models with the Touch Bar. Technicians from ExamSoft, a software company that provides testing software to the Board of Law Examiners will be there to ensure that feature of your MacBook Pro’s is disabled. The notice has come with the instruction on how to disable the feature.
Apart from North Carolina, other states are also being strict on MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar. For instance, in California, applicants won’t be allowed to bring their MacBook Pros to the upcoming exam in February 2017. Also, Colorado Supreme Court and the New York State Board of Law Examiners issued notices saying that applicants who bring the laptop with Touch Bar will have to write their answers by hand, with an option to re-download the ExamSoft software to another laptop for free. So, if you’re a prospective lawyer and own the latest MacBook Pro, you better leave it at your home.
