I have a short list of travel rules:
Nowhere hot.
Nowhere rural.
No travel from mid-November through March.
Destinations must have wi-fi.
I know myself and I know how I operate. Heat makes me bitchy, rural areas freak me out, and traveling during the winter months sends me into hyperventilation.
Yet this year I’m doing all three. Gulp.
I’m breaking the rules.
I’m heading to somewhere warm in two weeks. Which means I’m traveling during my most-feared time of year too. I’ll be heading south. To Albuquerque, New Mexico to be exact for a live three-hour tarot workshop (there is still time to sign up).
Rumor has it that it won’t be that sweaty.
I don’t know about that but I do know that I’ll be hanging with an amazing tarot tribe and an old friend who I haven’t seen in years.
Which means the incentive might just outweigh my reservations.
In August, I’m heading to Rhinebeck, New York to teach alongside tarot legends Mary K. Greer, Rachel Pollack, Sasha Graham and Barbara Moore. When I was asked, I didn’t hesitate to say yes. An honor like that only comes once in a blue moon. It had to happen.
I didn’t realize until later that the Omega Institute, where I’ll be teaching, is in the middle of the woods and supposedly, the wi-fi ain’t all that. Which means: hot weather, woods, no wi-fi.
Rut-roh.
But again – the motivation trumps my apprehension. I’m doing it. Even if that means bringing my own wi-fi tower.
Because that’s the thing: you may have rules and reservations and all that stuff but sometimes life throws an opportunity or two your way that you can’t (and shouldn’t) pass up.
So off I go to parts unknown, places that may not be my idea of coolness, with an open mind and spirit of adventure, to see what I might just find.
What new things might tempt you out of your rules and comfort zones? How are you breaking the rules in your life? What might you discover if you just roll with it?
Hail yes!
