If you really love a shop for their esthetics, their items and their price range, why shouldn’t you be able to buy your whole wardrobe there along with something for your home and maybe even a gift or two? Well, that’s the exactly what Deb Nichol has created with her pop-up boutique, The Latest Scoop. I recently sat down with Deb and Karleigh Sedar, who does their social media to get all the deets on the shop.

Walking into The Lastest Scoop, you’re always greeted with something new and exciting. Each season, they completely gut the place and redecorate to bring you a whole new mix of merchandise to suit each season.

What is a pop-up boutique?

A pop up boutique is a shop that opens temporarily and usually in different locations. It has become quite a trend in the past few years but usually they are simply done. No one that I know of goes to the extent that we do to present our eclectic mix of inventory to our customers. We edit our collections to suit each neighborhood. Each location is different in every way – from the stock we carry to how we decorate and merchandise the store. The important and consistent message we get across in our brand is beautiful things for you and your home at great prices!

Where do you find inspiration for each store concept?

We all love Pinterest and magazines for inspiration but we get a lot of inspiration from our travels too. This year, I went to Madrid and Paris and didn’t go to one museum. Instead I went to every store and obsessed over how they looked.

How would you describe the aesthetics if the shop?

We’re eclectic – so, we’ll put a martini glass next to a lipstick, next to a cocktail dress, next to a dining room chair, next to whatever works. That’s the fun part, keep it fun and eclectic with no rules.

What are your in-store must-haves for this fall?

I would choose an oversized black blazer, black patent leather stilettos (we have a fab pair for only $49), a great jean that you can roll or fold. On my most recent trip to Paris, I noticed they were folding quite a wide cuff. Also a white silky blouse because it goes with denim or can be made to look more dressy. That would have to be my favorite look in-store.

What’s the price range of the shop?

99% of my purchases come out of L.A. I’m not brand driven in the sense that I don’t buy the brands that everybody knows. I’m out to find brand name inspired designs at a more realistic retail price point. There’s hardly anything over $100, aside from shoes and handbags such as Matt & Nat but our jeans are $59 to $89. We try to keep everything under $100 so that when you come shopping here you don’t leave with any regrets. Come in for a whole seasonal wardrobe! Fashion really isn’t about money, it’s about style and how you put it all together.

When are your pop-up shops closed?

We close our store two or three times a year: all of January and February and we don’t open for most of August. It refreshes the staff, because retail can be so busy and it gives customers a chance to miss us a bit. We opened September 1st for fall and we will be closing down for only a couple days in early November to add sparkle for the holidays. We’ll switch our focus more to party dresses and gifts (watch out for some great hostess gifts!).

We’re actually popping up a third store in West Vancouver through November and December. It will be an interior design and decor store. It will also have tons of Christmas gifts! We try to find what’s new first, what every girl would want for herself or to give to someone else.

What’s up and coming for The Latest Scoop?

We’ll be introducing men’s stuff starting December. Look out for men’s clothing, Swedish boxers and tees, and easy fitting things such a sweaters. Also, we’ll be going online! We’re hoping to launch our eCommerce website mid October. You’ll be able to shop home decor and selected merchandise all year round.

Make sure to pop into one of The Latest Scoop’s locations!
