The nursery has come on quite a lot since I last posted about it on the blog. It’s funny because we weren’t even really planning on doing this much to the nursery so soon but it’s easy to forget how long 9 months actually is and how much you can accomplish in that time.

We weren’t in a rush to buy a cot at all as he probably won’t be sleeping in it until he’s about 9 months but we went into Mamas & Papas a few weeks ago and it happened to be the last day of their sale and this cot caught our eye and it was almost an immediate decision (which is always a good sign!). It’s the Mia cot bed and I think it was £198 down from £320 so we thought it was worth the impulse buy and as it’s a cot bed it will last until he’s 4 or 5. (Oddly, I’ve just looked and on the website, it’s priced at £249 down from £500 so we really got a bargain if we saved £300 on the original price!!)

We also picked a moses basket which was kindly bought for us by Nick’s sister. That was also a sale bargain from Mothercare. It was so hard to find one that suited us and wasn’t overly boyish or babyish but I love the multi-coloured cloud print on this one.

We also bought some plain white muslins and had a go at printing the California bear on them from Patchwork Cactus’s DIY that one of my lovely readers bought to my attention. We did accidentally cut the template out the wrong way round but I’m not too fussed!

I’m a little bit in love with these alphabet cards that I bought from Amazon. I’ve seen loads of these displayed like this on Pinterest and I knew that’s what I wanted to do above the cot. Nick wanted to hang our pictures over the cot but I just felt funny about it in case one fell off the wall while baby was in the cot. I also bought ones by Eric Carle (of Hungry Caterpillar fame) but they were a bit too white and these complemented the colour of the walls much better.

Here are some more of our prints. The two on the left are by a local artist called Nick Frith that we’ve met at Boscombe Vintage Market a couple of times which is really cool. I was really keen to support local artists but it’s hard to find stuff that suits our style so I was over the moon to find these. We’ve spent a small fortune getting them framed professionally but I think it’ll be worth it as they’ll be on the wall for years and they just look so good done properly. We’re still waiting on one more print to arrive from America before we put them on the wall.

Once I stop working I’ve been thinking about attempting to get a bit arty and making some pictures for the wall using our own travel photos as a backdrop and overlaying some nice text in Photoshop with some of our favourite quotes and getting them printed as posters or postcards*. I’m not sure how well it will turn out as I’m not particularly good at that sort of thing but it’s worth a try!

I’ve also thought about getting some polaroid style Instagram prints* done and displaying them in a nice neat square somewhere. It’s hard to take photos of the whole room as it’s not particularly big but in between the cot and the door we’ve still got quite a big spare space on the wall. We’ve thought about putting shelves or cubes up to store books but haven’t made any decisions yet.

Nick got all our baby clothes out to wash them the other day and I had so much fun rediscovering some of the things I bought months ago. These are some of my favourites. Some of them are so tiny I’m worried he’ll never get to wear them! I probably won’t buy very much now that the sales are over, we just need a little snowsuit, some tiny jogging bottoms and some little shoes – probably some dark brown UGG boots (the soft sole ones) as Nick’s sister bought some for our niece Elsie when she was little and they lasted for months and months and were worth every penny. It’s also going to be winter for at least the first 4 months of his life so he’ll probably live in them!
