Aerospace engineering is a branch of engineering study that deals with design, manufacturing, maintenance of aircrafts and space crafts, helicopters and fighter jets. Although it is a separate discipline, aeronautical engineering is sometimes academically linked with the related field of aerospace engineering. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Georgia Institute of Technology are two of the highest ranked doctorate-granting schools for aeronautical and aerospace engineering.

There are number of well-known universities and colleges throughout the US which offer excellent academic training and guidance in this branch of engineering.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts

U.S. News and World Report ranked MIT the best college in for both undergraduate and graduate aeronautical and aerospace engineering in the US. The MIT Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics offers several undergraduate and graduate program options, including a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering, a Master of Science in Engineering and Management and a Doctor of Science in Flight Transportation. Distinguished MIT alumnus is Buzz Aldrin, the Apollo 11 astronaut who was the second man to walk on the moon.

Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia

U.S. News and World Report ranked Georgia Tech the fifth-best school for a graduate aerospace engineering in the US. Part of the College of Engineering at Georgia Tech, the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering is one of the largest and oldest programs for aerospace engineering in the country. Students at Georgia Tech can pursue a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering and a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering.

Apart from these, there are other sets of renowned institutions that are also in the ivy-league.
