Gulf Medical University, Ajman (GMU) is among United Arab Emirate’s foremost independent multi-disciplinary Universities.

It is synonymous with excellence in the field of medical education and research.  The quest for excellence has resulted in the creation of medical institution par excellence.  There was a significant gap between the demand for medical educational institutions and the number of universities in U.A.E.  The purpose of GMU was to bridge this gap with a private medical university that embraced quality education.



Right from the inception the GMU formerly Gulf Medical College, Ajman established in 1998, pioneered as an institution of excellence offering world class healthcare education and training – the MBBS – Bachelor of Medicine, BPT – Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Pharma D – Doctorate of Pharmacy, DMD – Doctor of Dental Medicine and Masters in Clinical Pathology (MSc CP), Masters in Toxicology (MS Tox), Masters in Public Health (MPH), Masters in Human Reproductive Biology.  All the programs are accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, U.A.E. (Commission for Academic Accreditation).   It is also in the forefront of providing Continuing Medical Education and Continuing Professional Development Programs.  The Center for Continuing Education and Community Outreach offers 70 non-degree programs having part time, full time and a few online,  all of which are less than one year duration. 25 new short term courses  such as Dental Assistant Course, Physical Therapy, Medical Assistant-Clinical, Medical Assistant-Laboratory, Medical Assistant-Administration,  ECG & Rhythm Interpretation, Medical Insurance Billing, Pharmaceutical Sales & Marketing, Clinical Nutrition, Nutrition for Sports & Human Performance, Basic Surgical Skills, Nursing Assistant, Basic Arabic for Health Professionals are also offered at GMU.

GMU is fully accredited by the following international bodies and agencies such as the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research, U.A.E. (Commission for Academic Accreditation), listed in WHO - Eastern Mediterranean Regional Health Professions Education Directory (EMRO), listed in WHO AVICENNA Directory of University of Copenhagen, listed in IMED under the auspices of FAIMER, recognized by Malaysian Medical Council, Nigerian Medical & Dental Council, Iran, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Srilanka.

GMU is also a full institutional member of the following bodies such as Global Alliance for Medical Education (GAME), U.S.A., International Association for Dental Research (IADR), U.S.A., Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE), U.K., Institute of International Education (IIE), U.S.A.



It currently has a global composition of the university community made up of an international faculty drawn from 22 countries and a student cohort from 67 countries.  The University has infrastructure and facilities which are on par with some of the established medical schools in the world.

Didactic lectures, small group discussions, seminars, quiz programs, communication skills and clinical skills including dedicated eLearning materials are some of the educational methods followed by GMU.

GMU has the high reputation of organizing well acclaimed International and Regional Conferences and Symposia.  The University also published a bi-monthly health magazine – GMC Health Journal, as part of its commitment to informative medical journalism.  GMU are trendsetters and unique in many ways.  It is among the few universities in the world to have successfully implemented the organ system based curriculum for its medicine program. Gulf Medical University is proud of its unique Summer Training Programs which places its senior medical students into reputed hospitals and healthcare institutions around the globe to experience the best international clinical exposure and internship. Every year the students participate in clinical training in leading universities and hospitals in several countries  including USA, UK, Germany, Hungary, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

GMU encourages students in research activities from the third year itself.  The Community Department takes the initiative to conduct several research activities in the region.   Therefore, it is mandatory for every student to participate in research activities as a part of the curriculum.  GMU has established a full-fledged department which invites research papers from the students three times a year which subsequently gets assessed by the Ethics Committee of the University.

Patients from over 175 nationalities receive treatment at GMC Hospitals & Research Centre, a constituent private teaching university hospital with a capacity of 250 beds housed with ultra-modern facilities.  Needless to say the GMC Hospital & Research Center, Ajman, the first private teaching hospital in the region is now one of the largest healthcare providers in the private sector in the U.A.E. and the first in the Middle East to be accredited by QHA Trent, United Kingdom.
