A love or loathe 1963 Rolls-Royce is for sale – the colour is certainly polarising

Donovan’s song Mellow Yellow reached number two in the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1966 and number eight in the UK charts in early 1967. A car that would have made the ideal promotional vehicle for that song, a yellow 1963 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Hooper drophead coupé, is currently for sale through Richard Biddulph’s Vintage & Prestige Fine Motorcars in Grays, Essex.

Rolling Mellow Yellow – Hood up and hood down – Either way this is a Rolls-Royce that will not fail to turn heads

Offered for £175,000 ($231,000 or €208,000), this particular Rolls-Royce started life as a long wheel base saloon and was converted into a drophead coupé by the now sadly defunct Hooper & Co. firm of coachbuilders in the 1990s. It was kept by the firm in their corporate collection in Jersey until 2010 when purchased by the current owner.

Finished in deep yellow over black paintwork and an interior of black hide piped in yellow with yellow lambswool carpets, this is a vehicle that wants to be noticed. Ideally for drinkers, it comes with a driver’s door concealed cocktail set and though Mr Biddulph suggests it’s a “going to attract attention wherever it goes”, this truly is an example of a Roller that you’ll either love or loathe.

The interior is equally noticeable

A concealed cocktail set is to be found in the driver’s door

Even the boot is carpeted in a most vivid shade of yellow
