A Saskatoon man has been charged with murder in the death of James Carlson, who disappeared from the Watrous area in 2008.

Taylor Wolff is facing one count of second-degree murder, RCMP announced Friday. He is scheduled to appear June 20 in Saskatoon provincial court.

Evidence found during a search of Carlson’s home led to the eventual arrest of Wolff, RCMP said at a news conference. He was arrested hours earlier near Moose Jaw, RCMP said.

RCMP believe other people were involved in the case and the investigation is ongoing. Carlson’s body has not been found.

On May 14, 2008, Carlson was working on a farm in the Watrous area. He spoke with several people that day and was scheduled to work on another area farm the next day.

That evening, he went to Watrous and was seen in the local video store between 7 and 8 p.m. That is the last confirmed sighting of Carlson, according to RCMP. Five days later, Carlson’s truck was found in a field near Allen, Sask. A search of the area did not reveal his whereabouts.

RCMP searched his home and found evidence that he had been murdered. An investigation into the circumstances and Carlson’s location has been going on ever since.

In May 2010, Carlson’s white Monte Carlo was found near Rosthern. The interior had been covered with automotive fluid, which prevented RCMP from gathering any forensic evidence.

Police have received numerous tips about the case in the last five years, they said.
