The one thing that people should know about Antipodeans is that we’re gutsy.

If you’d like proof, Air New Zealand has just launched a video letter that asks James Corden to do a #CockpitKaraoke series.

Of course, it really doesn’t matter whether he does or doesn’t agree to it. The idea will work anyway. Because it’s beautifully written in colloquial Antipodean – otherwise known as the way we make friends with – well, anyone, given life with Antipodean humour. United Airlines may ask people to fly the friendly skies. Air New Zealand is giving them a real taste of the experience.

It opens with, “Mate, we’ve got a pitch for you. (Lol. Pitch. See where we’re going with this.) Picture this: You. Us…”

And closes with, “…Let us know. Tweet. DM. Snapchat. Message in a bottle. (Such a lost art.)

Air New Zealand may or may not have been paying attention to CBS’ recent attempts to make money out of its asset. The Late Late Show did a brand tie-in carpool karaoke with McDonald’s and Coca-Cola in June. And it is staving off the anticipated impact off competitor, Spike’s, planned Caraoke Showdown by turning Carpool Karaoke into a stand alone series available on Apple Music.
