The Kentucky Distillers’ Association is to hold a four-day “Bourbon fantasy camp” in May to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Congress declaring the whiskey as “America’s only native spirit”.

Eight distilleries will be involved in the Kentucky Bourbon Affair in May

The Kentucky Bourbon Affair will be held in Louisville from 14-18 May, featuring unique behind-the-scenes tours and Bourbon experiences at several key Kentucky distilleries, as well as a series of evening events.

Visitors will be able to choose from a range of activities, including sampling Bourbon from the very first barrels of hand-crafted brands, blending their own Bourbon straight from the barrel, and hanging our in a certain master distiller’s “man cave”.

Eight distilleries will be taking part in the Kentucky Bourbon Affair: Bulleit, Four Roses, Jim Beam, Maker’s Mark, Town Branch, Wild Turkey, Heaven Hill and Woodford Reserve.

Louisville mayor Greg Fischer, said: “This is going to be an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for whiskey lovers to immerse themselves in our Bourbon history and heritage. It’s a perfect combination of today’s Bourbon lifestyle – legendary distilleries by day, urban Bourbon by night.”

All events held will be themed toward celebrating the acknowledgement of Bourbon as a distinctive product of the US, by Congressional Resolution in 1964. To this day, Bourbon is the only spirit recognised in such a way.

Fifty golden tickets, which give the holders first choice of five distillery tours, access to opening and closing events, a tool-kit and personal concierge service, went on sale earlier this week, while a limited number of additional tickets to individual events will go on sale at www.kybourbonaffair.com over the next few weeks.

“The Bourbon Affair will be a classic, unforgettable opportunity to plunge yourself in a beloved brand and explore new favourites to add to your collection – an elite Bourbon fantasy camp that you can only enjoy in Louisville and Kentucky,” said Eric Gregory, president of the Kentucky Distillers’ Association. “It will definitely be an affair to remember.”
