Survival Saturday is  a round-up of the week’s news and resources for folks who are interested in being prepared.

This Week in the News

This week on Survival Saturday, we talk about the world’s most dangerous jobs. I’d like to suggest some new additions, like Olympic athletes, Clinton staffers,
tightrope walker above a pit of snapping alligators
, and being an American citizen abroad if Obama actually just paid a huge ransom to Iranian hostage takers.

Survival Should Be an Event at the 2016 Olympics

The situation at the Rio Olympics is horrible. Think about it: you have the finest athletes in the world, who have trained, sacrificed, and given up their youths to become the very best at what they do. Now, their shining moment has arrived.

And it’s taking place in the equivalent of an unflushed toilet.

The US rowing team will be uniformed in state-of-the-art, poop-proof suits. “The US rowing team will be using suits designed by Boathouse Sports that will help keep the sewage off the rowers. As the AP reports, the new seamless one-piece suit is knitted with an anti-microbial finish, that will also have water-repellent features to keep the rowers cool and dry – and hopefully, free from s***.” Aquatic athletes have been strongly advised to “keep your mouth closed” so as not to ingest any of the fetid water with heaven-knows-what lurking in it.

But it isn’t just the feces-filled water that athletes must contend with. Staying safe and healthy at the Rio Olympics is an event in and of itself.

Their accommodations are also a disaster, with leaking pipes, toilets that won’t flush, and exposed wiring. Reportedly, the Olympic Village is also filthy and “in need of a good cleaning.” Athletes from Australia and Sweden refused to move in, and complaints abound from other delegations. On Twitter, #RioProblems is a trending hashtag.

This doesn’t even touch on the fact that the current Zika virus outbreak appears to have originated in Brazil. One media outlet pondered whether unwisely hosting an event with people from around the world in a viral hotbed would lead to a world-wide Zika pandemic. Many Olympic athletes are taking measures like sleeping in netting, using anti-microbial condoms, and dousing themselves in insect repellant.

What Really Happened in Idaho with the Refugees and the Little American Girl?

One of the most commented-upon posts over on the Facebook page was an article from Breitbart about an interview with the father of a 5-year-old girl who was reported to have been anally raped and urinated on by some refugee boys in Idaho. In the interview, the father, who remained anonymous, said that he saw some of the video that one of the boys had taken with a cell phone of the horrifying attack on the child.

The politically correct deniers came out in full force, quoting Snopes like it was the Holy Bible. (Here’s a good article to link to when people quote Snopes at you.)

Here are the main arguments they had:

Some said the story was fake. If this is the case, then why did US Attorney Wendy J. Olson threaten with arrest those who spoke out about it? “The spread of false information or inflammatory or threatening statements about the perpetrators or the crime itself reduces public safety and may violate federal law.” Obviously, we don’t want false stories circulating but the rape of a 5-year-old is by its very nature, inflammatory, and any discussion of it would raise ire in any rational human being.

Some took issue with the parents.  I don’t know about you, but my five-year-olds were not constantly, 100%, within my sight. Obviously, they were supervised, but they still got to play outside without me hovering constantly. It astonishes me how blaming the victim is frowned upon by the PC crowd unless the victim was victimized by another group that they want to protect more.

Some took issue with the father’s interview being anonymous. As everyone involved in the case is a minor (the boys were 10 and under), the court records are sealed to protect the identities of the children. And, furthermore, would you want your little girl to forever be known as “that girl who got anally raped and peed on in a laundry room”?  No. I wouldn’t want that either.

This story highlights the concerns many Americans have had about welcoming refugees who have a such a different way of looking at the world than us. There have been a lot of problems with them assimilating into European culture, where rape is now a rampant crime – and even a “game” for some asylum seekers. Even the House Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence admits this is a threat – you can read their full report here.

Add Clinton Staffer to  the Most Dangerous Jobs in America

Some of the most dangerous jobs in America include working as a logger, a fisherman, or a pilot, according to a list on Time.com. But I think a revision is in order because it’s become increasingly dangerous to be an employee of the Clinton Campaign.

Over the past 6 weeks, 5 more people who had the potential to negatively affect the campaign have mysteriously died. From a barbell incident in the gym to a mugging where nothing was stolen, being anywhere in the vicinity of HRC should surely qualify one for hazardous duty pay.

I was actually thinking that the Clinton campaign should ditch Katy Perry and change it’s theme song to Queen’s classic, “Another One Bites the Dust.”

Another one bites the dust

Another one bites the dust

And another one gone, and another one gone

Another one bites the dust

Hey, I’m gonna get you too

Another one bites the dust

See?  It’s so fitting. And wouldn’t you rather have that stuck in your head than a Katy Perry song?

Of course, the mainstream media isn’t reporting this as anything other than some kind of weird cosmic coincidence. “Oh, gosh, that poor guy got mugged but none of his stuff was stolen but it was still a mugging” or the more heated version of “it was a mugging, you lunatic conspiracy theorist!!!!”  This is far from the first time that mysterious deaths have occurred in timing that is convenient for the Clintons. Vince Foster, anyone?

Here’s some other stuff you won’t read about on mainstream media sites. The alternative media is abuzz with wondering what on earth is going on with Hillary Clinton’s health. (Go here for some information and conjecture on the topic of her bizarre behavior, her cough, and her tics.)

Nor will you see this clip of her promising to “raise taxes on the middle class.”

Zero Hedge reports that while the left is calling this a slip of the tongue, the shortfalls of Clinton’s proposed budget are staggering. “In fact, the amount of debt held by the public alone would reach $25.825 trillion in 2026 under Clinton’s plan. The amount of debt held by the public today is $13.968 trillion.”

Wait….I Thought We Didn’t Negotiate with Terrorists

So cliche that it’s in nearly every movie with a President as a character, the phrase “The United States does not negotiate with terrorists” may have been totally invalidated this week when President Obama sent $400 million in cash on a plane to Iran.

Some say this is money that was frozen during an embargo, while others say this was ransom for some American hostages (thus forever putting a giant price tag on American citizens all over the globe.)

Iran videotaped the money drop and posted the footage of pallets full of cash in a warehouse. Shortly after this money was received, some US hostages were released and sent to Geneva. Obama says these two things are entirely separate. This article says that the money was set aside to be reimbursed for arms purchased from us that were never delivered.

US Senator Mark Rubio believes this is a ransom payment. He introduced legislation to stop the money drop with this statement:

“Iran is the world’s foremost state sponsor of terrorism. It is disgusting that the Obama Administration would even contemplate providing almost $2 billion to a terrorist-sponsoring regime as an illicit ransom payment. As the Administration has stated in its own hostage policy, paying hostage-takers endangers American citizens.

“When the Senate returns in September, I plan to introduce legislation requiring the President to get this money back from Iran and banning any future ransom payments by the U.S. government to countries or groups that take Americans hostage. The President’s actions are unacceptable and come as the Iranians continue to refuse to work with us to locate Floridian Robert Levinson, the longest-held hostage in American history, who was last seen on Iran’s Kish Island in 2007. Iran has pocketed this money and continued to hold and take more Americans hostage. President Obama’s actions have endangered all Americans abroad.”

What do you guys think of this rather sketchy-seeming transaction?
