Who Is The Liberty For?

The Conclusion

Presenting The Liberty By Amerisleep

The Liberty is just one of many mattresses that are offered by Amerisleep. The Amerisleep company just happens to manufacture the most eco-friendly foam in the world. They are one of the few companies that are more concerned about the health of the world rather than producing a multi-thousand dollar mattress made of hazardous materials.

From the start of the mattress making procedure, Amerisleep keeps your comfort in their minds. They revolutionized their manufacturing process and set out to deliver your bed using environmentally friendly packaging.

The Amerisleep Promise

The Amerisleep promise is to keep you comfortable and help you fall asleep 15 minutes quicker than the average mattress. They also promise that you will spend 18 minutes less tossing and turning. They want you to wake up alert, refreshed, and recharged instead of groggy, grumpy, and out of energy.

The Amerisleep also promises to keep you cool while you are sleeping by maximizing breathability with their Bio-Pur memory foam with extreme cell structure. Their Bio-Pure foam is also CertiPur-Us Certified.  Any mattresses that promises to keep me cooler at night has a definite star in my book. Now, let’s go see if the Liberty stood up to the Amerisleep promise.

Order Experience & Procedure

Ordering the Liberty mattress is as easy as ordering those new shoes or that new BBQ grill off of the internet. All you need to do is head over to the Liberty mattress page and choose which size you want. You can also choose a foundation to go with it which I will get more into later on. You can choose from a Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, California King, and a Split King.

Once you click our link for $50 off, you can then choose your size. You will then proceed to checkout and enter all of your billing information. Once that is done, you are taken to the payment page which only requires a credit card of some kind or a check and/or savings account over the phone.

See, just as easy as ordering those Louis Vuittons! And now, we wait for them to arrive, well, the mattress in this case.

Shipping

Once your order is placed, your mattress and/or foundation will be shipped in two working days excluding major holidays. It will be shipped via FedEx, for free, with curbside delivery and can take 1-5 working days, depending on your location. Of you are in Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, or anywhere else in the world, contact Amerisleep for more information. Only deliveries within the continental United States are free and Amerisleep does not ship to APO addresses.

After the FedEx guy and myself got the box on the ground without losing the mattress, I rolled it over a few times and finally found a small Amerisleep sticker. I was surprised that the packaging was a little plain. For me, it didn’t scream “Open me! I’m awesome!” So I took it upon myself to investigate why it was like this. After speaking to a customer service representative about why their box was so different than others I have seen in the past, I was informed that they were working on a new design for their packaging. I can certainly accept that answer. Hey, at least the open ends made it easier for me to get the mattress out.

Features & Benefits

Are you ready, folks? This is where the real fun begins. The sections in which I tell you everything the Liberty by Amerisleep has to offer. Here we go!

What Sets It Apart?

The Liberty by Amerisleep is one of the most eco-friendly mattresses on the market today. They craft their mattresses with plant-based materials that allow them to use less petroleum in their products. Their mattresses are also Celliant infused. This process allows your body to use its energy more efficiently while you are sleeping. You will spend less time awake during the night and will help you fall asleep quicker.

The way this works is that the Celliant recycles thermal energy into healing energy. This in turn will then transform your body heat into infrared light. This helps to promote better circulation and skin-oxygen levels. These levels are also proven to promote better heart health and lung strength. Now, if you ask me, I think that’s pretty awesome. I have never heard of a mattress that has been proven to promote better health like that.

If you didn’t think it could get any better, their mattresses are also made with the most eco-friendly process in the world with their Variable Pressure Foaming process. The VPS emits absolutely no emissions into the atmosphere thanks to its closed design of its chamber. The air that leaves that chamber is then sent through carbon filters. This will remove any harmful chemicals and actually make cleaner air than when it came in. Pretty cool, huh?

Sounds like a mattress that was built for you?

Construction & Composition

The Liberty is made with multiple layers to ensure a healthy and cool sleeping environment. They include the following:

Cover

Layer 1

Layer 2

Layer 3

Cover

The cover is infused with Celliant, which has been clinically proven to help people fall asleep 15 minutes quicker with its thermo-reactive thread. This cover helps to recycle your body temperature and turn it into healing energy. You will in turn, wake up with more energy and less aches and pains.

3″ Bio-Foam

This layer has 3” of Bio-Pur foam. This layer is open-cell memory foam that conforms to your body while cooling you down as you sleep. This layer is made with plant-based materials which excels at keeping you relaxed as you fall asleep.

2” Affinity Layer

Also known as the transitional layer, it helps to transition between the other layers to enhance their supportiveness and responsiveness. This then makes your bed feel softer while continuing to support your body.

7” Bio-Core Layer

The Bio-Core layer is the base support of the mattress. This layer helps to keep your hips and shoulders in their natural position. This will reduce or eliminate any pain you may have prior to sleeping on the mattress.

Comfort

Comfort is very important to consider when picking out a new mattress. You want something that is going to relieve your pressure points but not have you sink in so much you can’t move. I prefer to sleep on something that has just the right amount of softness, but not suck me in. The Liberty is made for every type of sleeper, whether it be back, side, or stomach. Initially the mattress was a little too firm, but that’s why we test it for 2 weeks and after it broke in, the firmness level softened up and it was getting more into my range of comfort level at about a 7.5 in the firmness scale.

The mattress itself is soft to touch and may be more comfortable for a heavier person, back or stomach sleepers or someone who likes a more firm bed. My children seemed to love it, so it may also be ideal for a children’s bed.

Support

When I was sleeping on it, I was waking up refreshed. I had no pain and my shoulders weren’t stiff like they usually are on a firm mattress.

The Bio-Core layer is what is responsible for keeping your shoulders and hips in their natural position. I cannot tell you how many times I have woken up with sore hips. On the Liberty, I wasn’t. This layer combined with the transitional layer aids in the support that the Liberty does give. It also helps to relieve pressure points.

Overall, the support of the Liberty is very good. My husband was not experiencing the back pain that usually comes with his morning routine once he got out of bed in the morning. As a contractor who is constantly lifting heavy materials and doing strenuous work, proper support is necessary for him, and the Liberty delivered.

Edge Support

As with all memory foam mattresses, edge support is going to be lacking. I have come across mattresses that had absolutely no edge support and some that had substantial edge support. As for the Liberty, the edge support was right in the middle. I am a short person, so not having a lot of edge support is helpful for getting in the bed since I have a raised frame. As for getting out, if you aren’t prepared for it, you could find yourself slipping off the edge.

The Liberty has just enough edge support to keep me on the bed, especially when I throw my leg over the edge sometimes for comfort. I encountered a mattress that would suck me off of the bed when I threw my leg over because there was absolutely no edge support.

All-in-all, the edge support of the Liberty is acceptable. I have no complaints about it. If you take a look at the picture below, you can see how the edge reacts to a 16 pound bowling ball. It doesn’t sink too much and it is keeping the ball in place quite well.

I always try to suggest a specific frame for these type of mattresses, but the Liberty will do fine on any frame you put it on. If you aren’t a fan of slack in your edge support, then I would opt for a sunken frame. Something along the lines of what you would put a waterbed in.

Motion Isolation

I was quite impressed with the motion isolation of the Liberty. I absolutely despise being woken up by movement from the other side of the bed. My children loved to come and sleep on the mattress with me and if you know anything about kids, they don’t hold still. I would have two or three of them at a time in the bed next to me and I could hardly feel them move.

This mattress is well above average for lack of motion transfer. I loved that I couldn’t feel my kids bouncing around on the other side, even for a Queen. I was able to do a test for the motion isolation with that same bowling ball and a champagne glass. If you watch it, you can see that the glass really doesn’t move when I throw the ball near it.

Overall, the motion isolation is great. My husband also said that he could not feel any movement from the kids flopping around. And that is saying something pretty great since he wakes up with the smallest amount of movement from my constant belly flops in the middle of the night.

Temperature Regulation Features

Well, where to start with this section. The Liberty has many different temperature regulation features, which is what makes it so unique.

It’s Celliant Infused

The Celliant yarn is infused with 13 thermoreactive minerals that are woven right into the fabric cover. This technology is clinically proven to help people fall asleep 15 minutes quicker, on average. It will take your natural body heat and turn it into infrared light. This infrared light is actually quite healthy and it will provide you with healing energy to assist you with waking more energized and without aches and pains.

A Holy Cover

Upon investigating the whole mattress, I noticed that the cover has noticeable breathable holes. If you take a look at the picture below, you can see the light shining through the holes of the cover. This also helps to aid in breathability as your body heat won’t get trapped under the surface.

It’s Made With Bio-Pur

Bio-Pur helps to keep your body temperature balanced throughout the night with its large open-cell structure. This will help to better circulate the air to keep your body temperature in a comfortable zone from head to toe.

Heat Retention

Heat retention is what we use to describe how the mattress holds heat. So, does it? Well, when I was sleeping on it, I wasn’t finding myself cooling down very well. There were some nights when the bedroom was at above normal temperatures, which did have an effect on how the mattress performed, but even on the nights when the room was cooler, I wasn’t having much luck with body temperature regulation.

So, as with every other mattress I test, I did a heat retention test with my trusty heating sock and infrared heat gun. I heated up my sock to around 130-135 degrees and timed how long it took for the mattress to cool back down to normal body temperature, so around 98 degrees. It took about 29 seconds, which is a little higher than the average, most falling in between the 20-30 second mark.

So, I can’t say for certain why the mattress did not react well to the heat and cooled down at a quicker rate. For mattresses that retain heat more I like to recommend the Nacreous cooling mattress pad if you aren’t a fan of sleeping on the warm side.

Smell

Since this is one of the most eco-friendly mattresses on the market, one would hope that it does not have a bad odor to it like other memory foam mattresses do. So, does it? Nope. The Liberty had absolutely no smell to it. I was actually quite impressed that when I opened it, it didn’t smell like anything more than some fabric. There wasn’t even a factory smell. It honestly smelled like a brand new upholstered couch. I can live with that.

Durability and Quality of Construction

The quality of construction is important when it comes to the longevity of your mattress. I know that if I pay a large sum of money for a mattress, I am going to want it to last more than a few years. So, this is why I go around and inspect each mattress. I like to look for loose thread, vulnerable areas, how well the zipper works, etc.

The mattress itself is pretty well constructed. I opened up the inside and took a peek at the foams. They all felt sturdy and strong, which is really important for a long lasting mattress. The cover had no ripped seams but the zipper seemed really difficult to open and close. It felt like it was catching on the fabric around it.

Other than the zipper feeling a little out of sorts, overall the mattress seems durable. The cover is nice and tight, not much stretch to it, so I would be careful with that if you decide to wash the cover. I have also noticed that the bottoms of these mattresses with a washable cover like to tear easily if they are handled too rough, though. So, as long as you treat it right, you shouldn’t have a problem keeping the mattress in tip top shape, especially if you decide to put a mattress encasement on it. This will help keep bugs and other nasty allergens and critters out of it that could potentially void your warranty.

Maintenance, Protection, Care & Warranty

Is a foundation needed?

If you would prefer to not use one, you don’t have to. But, you can use it on a flat platform bed, a slatted bed frame with slats no more than 3 inches apart and at least 0.5 inches tall, the Amerisleep foundation which is 9” tall and designed to provide optimal support for your mattress, a box spring with a ¾ piece of moisture resistant plywood on top, and an adjustable bed frame.

Is a mattress protector needed?

Although the cover is meant to come off and be washed for normal cleaning issues, Amerisleep does strongly encourage the use of a waterproof mattress protector. This is to ensure that your warranty isn’t voided due to stains.

Does it work on adjustable beds?

Pairing the Liberty with an adjustable bed will enhance your comfort and put you in control of how you sleep.

How easy are returns?

They ask that you give it 100 nights try it out, but if you are still unsatisfied, you can give them a call and they will refund you in full and come pick the mattress up. When the mattress is returned, Amerisleep will then work with local charities to donate the mattress to those in need. They do not accept returns for the wrong size mattress ordered.

What about the warranty?

Never fear, the 20 year warranty is here! From the date you receive your mattress, you are covered for 20 years for any craftsmanship or quality defects.

Is there a trial?

Amerisleep gives you a 100 night trial to test the bed. If you aren’t happy with the way you are sleeping, they will come grab the mattress from you at no charge and refund you in full.

Do you need to rotate the mattress?

Rotating it is not necessary.

Are there alternative firmnesses?

Yes, but they are completely different mattresses. Their Americana bed is their firmest, the Revere bed is ideal for stomach and back sleepers-so it is a little softer, the Colonial bed is softer but offers support, and the Independence bed is “the ultimate in luxury”. Each one of these costs a little more than the other.

Who Is The Liberty For?

If you can relate to any of these categories, or all of them, this may be the right mattress for you.

Are you eco friendly?

The Liberty is made with eco-friendly materials that are sure to keep your sleeping environment healthy and safe. Who wants to sleep on a mattress that smells like plastic and fumes? Not me, that’s for sure.

Do you despise motion transfer?

There is limited motion transfer on the Liberty. So while you are sleeping, you won’t be woken up by movement from the other side of the bed.

Is cleanliness important?

If so, then the Liberty is ideal for you. The cover of this mattress can be removed for easy cleaning per the instructions given by Amerisleep on that handy mattress tag.

Do you sleep in every position known to man?

If you change positions frequently as you sleep, no worries. The Liberty mattress is specifically designed to accommodate all types of sleepers which includes back, side, stomach, and other weird positions that you may end up in.

Conclusion

After a few weeks of sleeping on this mattress, doing my tests, taking notes and watching my children sleep on it as well, I can say with 100% honesty that the Liberty is an excellent mattress. My children loved it, my husband liked it, and I got use to it after a while even thought it was still a little too firm for me.

I think that this would be the perfect mattress for someone who is looking for a very eco-friendly alternative to regular memory foam mattresses. There is no smell and once you open it up, you can sleep on it within 4-6 hours after it fully expands.

As for the value, I think that this is in the right price range. There are definitely a lot of excellent features that really make the Liberty stand out from all of the others. Sure, this mattress is going to cost you a few hundred dollars more than the others on the list, but you are getting something that has great value.
