My friends (@JustRhee) and I had the most amazing and serene weekend ever at Cavender Creek Vineyards & Winery.  It was the perfect kick off to #WeekendWineTour! This quaint little winery is located in North Georgia and is nestled in the hills between two pastures.  Being in operation for less than 10 years and under new ownership, they are fairly new to the wine scene in Georgia’s wine country.  But being new to the game hasn’t stopped them from striving to create new and delicious wines for the masses.

One of the amenities that exists on the property is this beautiful rustic log cabin.  Upon our arrival we were greeted by Jeffry Butter, one of the vineyard managers.  He immediately gave us the fascinating history of this 200 year old cabin that we would be staying in.  He explained that this cabin was actually relocated from Tennessee  and that most of the wood is original.  Rustic touches coupled with modern amenities (but not too many) made it the perfect romantic getaway.  The vibe about the place is one of serenity and connection.  With two full suites, 2 full bathrooms, a small kitchen and 2 fireplaces it has everything that a small group like ours needed to relax, relate and release.

Once our cabin tour was over and we were all settled in we got a private tour of the vineyard and wine cellars where the wine is actually made. Here is where we also got reacquainted with the vineyard’s two guard dogs, Tinkerbell and Tucker.  These two Pyrenees pooches protect the property from coyotes and other intruders that might harm the donkeys or the vines.  Both dogs have access to the wine tasting room but they are very friendly and no trouble at all.

There are also 2 Donkeys and a gang of chickens and roosters on the property!

We learned all about their beautiful vines and which wines are produced from which grapes.  It was fascinating to hear about the difference between the native American grapes and the European grapes.  Since it’s Fall and after harvest most of the vines were bare but we were able to see a few grapes.

After the walking tour we got to meet Vineyard Manager, Bobby Phelps and Wine Maker, McKenzie Buckley.  They were super friendly and were very optimistic about the future of the winery.

McKenzie told us everything we need to know about the wine making process and more.  She talked about the difficulties of being new to the industry and some of the innovative new things that she might try in the future.  Cavender Creek uses a variety of different methods when it comes to creating/storing/aging its wine.

Our tasting was excellent as always.  They carry a variety of whites and delicious reds like Jackass Red and Donkey Hotie Red.  We’ve been out to Cavender Creek Vineyards many times and already knew what our favorites were. Mine are always the Muscadine wines which are sweet and come in flavors like peach, blackberry and white.

We  had a great time tasting and even had some fun with Ian, the wine steward who was kind enough to shoot our first “mannequin challenge” video for us.

Settling in for the night was easy.  It was a cool Fall night which was perfect for an evening around the fire.  Since the cabin has no televisions we created our own entertainment which was mostly just drinking wine and laughing until we fell asleep, but whatever.  right?  lol

I woke up the next morning to this perfect view and decided to move my chair, table and coffee to the gazebo to be just a little bit closer to the vines!

Cavender Creek Vineyards & Winery is a full service vineyard & winery complete with quality delicious wines, a tasting room, a rustic cabin and a beautiful and friendly staff.  It is the perfect get away for couples or small groups of friends who just want to get away from it all for awhile.  I would like to thank the owner Claire Livingston and Tasting Room Manager, Priscilla Butter and all of the staff at Cavender Creek Vineyards & Winery for coordinating this wonderful excursion.  Needless to say we will definitely be back.

Shout out to my team members which include:  My husband, Angelo and my travel team Justin and Sherita Thomas (@JustRhee)
