When I was in Elementary School, I never learned my math facts thoroughly. Thus, as I got older, and in more advanced math classes, I found that I was making addition, subtraction, multiplication and division errors that should have been easy! I didn’t want my children to have the same problems I did, so I began to use flash cards with them. However, this did not catch their attention and it soon was forgotten. I looked all over the web for a good math facts program, but just couldn’t find what I really wanted. That is until I was introduced to K5 Learning.
I signed my 9 year old son up for a free trial at K5 learning. There is a free online placement assessment in reading and math that will help gauge the skill levels in different areas. Lessons will be started at the appropriate point. Lessons are automatically selected so that parents do not have to be actively involved in selecting the lessons each day, yet they will fill confident that their child is receiving the lessons that are needed. If you want to be more involved as a parent, you can use the assignment function.
What does the K5 Program include?
free online assessments of each child’s math and reading skills
award-winning, curricula based reading and math content
over 3,000 online multimedia activities, personalized for each child based on his or her assessment
a highly structured environment which allows the student to proceed through the lessons in a logical fashion at his own pace
ease of use which allows even 4 or 5 year olds to work independently
attention to child safety with no external links, advertisements, chat or similar
comprehensive reporting to parents
24/7 availability and no downloads
What I and my son loved about K5 Learning.
I loved how easy it was to get my son started. I also LOVED how the math facts were presented. There were lessons explaining the math rules, practice sessions and test. There was plenty of repetition so that I knew that my son was actually learning the facts. I was also impressed that I could track my son’s progress, see the items he was having trouble with and the parts where he was doing great! My son loved that he was able to create his own avatar. He loved that there was a challenge to the test – you received a check plus if you completed the questions quickly. He tried to always complete them as fast as he could.
The reading section was equally has engaging. The lesson is taught and then the child gets to practice what they learned. Since reading and spelling is my son’s strong point, we didn’t spend as much time with this section as with the math section. However, he really enjoyed the lessons! There are over 1500 online tutorials and activities in the reading section.
You can receive a free 14 day trial of K5 Learning with no credit card required.
