Making the trip to New Orleans may not be easy, but incorporating the spirit of Mardi Gras into your home can be! Any space can be transformed into a French Quarter fantasy by using the iconic colors, symbols and images of Mardi Gras.

As most know, purple, green and gold are the traditional colors of Mardi Gras. The colors were selected in 1872 and later made official in 1892. Purple represents justice, Green represents faith and gold represents power.

Accenting a home with purple, green or gold is easy.  Simply swapping neutral existing colors for one of the three can make a huge difference. Each color automatically brightens up any space, which is perfect since spring is practically here!

Green Tinted Glass Jars     New Orleans Framed Print     Pair of Zinc Fleur de Lis Finials     Water Garden Flower Arrangement     Louis XV Style Child’s Fauteuil     Gold Mercury Glass Pots     Teche Table Lamp     Wood-Mode Contemporary Cabinets

The Louis XV style child’s chair from Carl Moore Antiques is fit for a king, or in this case a small prince! The plush amethyst upholstery and carved detailing on the arms and legs are undeniably regal.

Cabinet Innovations and its vendors are not afraid to add some color to any projects they take on.  The Wood-Mode contemporary style kitchen’s purple cabinets really make a statement. The minimal ornamentation and sleek lines create a contrast that is both eye-catching and functional.

Floral arrangements are festive and can go along with any color scheme, holiday or theme. The arrangement of alliums from Creative Branch naturally has all three Mardi Gras colors. Only a few of the flowers are needed to fill a vase because of the thick bulbs. Alliums are great to add to your garden because of their interesting texture and pop of color. They also are generally avoided by deer, mice and other common garden intruders.

The green tinted glass jars from Back Row Antiques and gold mercury glass pots from The Arrangement are great for anything and anywhere. In a kitchen they can be used to hold wooden utensils or fresh flowers from the Garden. In a living room they can be filled with long floral stems and then placed on a bookshelf or coffee table as décor. In a bathroom they can be used to store bath fizzies and other bathroom trinkets. Lots of possibilities!

A table lamp always does a room good. Lamps are both useful and aesthetically pleasing. French Market Lighting knows all about the traditional French styles of New Orleans and Mardi Gras. Its Teche table lamp looks like it came straight from the sitting room of a St. Charles Street home. It has a distressed gold base that is topped with a sculpted fleur de lis. The black shade is accented with a gold striped border.

Maison Maison Antiques is a great place to find genuine antiques that have been carefully hand selected from Europe. The pair of zinc fleur de lis are right on time for Mardi Gras. They date back to the late 19th century and are from Provence, France.

Last, but not least is the framed print of New Orleans from FrameCrafters, Inc. The pairing of the vibrant colors against the weathered gold frame really stands out and can give life to any wall.

Laissez les bon temps rouler (Let the good times roll) as they say in New Orleans and bring the passionate, exciting and vibrant vibes of Mardi Gras into your home this spring!

Happy Mardi Gras from The Red Vault!
