I have a 300 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank that I am planning to turn into a plant/goldfish pond. I live in Arizona (hot summers) but the tank’s location is mostly shaded. I want to set up a filter unit/pump to help clean and aerate the pond. I’m not really looking for a lot of DIY work, just need some help selecting what the best setup would be as far as this size of pond goes.

My two ideas were either to get a submersed filter and then use a tube to pump water to towards the raised bed and have some sort of waterfall-like thing going on to get the water moving. My other idea was to use a submersed pump and have it pump water up to the filter that is outside of the pond (either in the raised bed or behind the pond, and then shoot the water back into the pond.

Is one idea better than the other? Do most filters have a pump built in or would I need to buy both a filter and a pump separately (and tubing)? I don’t need anything fancy, just something serviceable. I’ve searched around on the internet but there is a lot to choose from. So, I guess my question is what all would I need to get one of these setups (or a better setup – I’m open to suggestions) up and running?

Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Laguna-PowerFl...ds=pond+filter

And then a pump to work with it: http://www.amazon.com/Laguna-Max-Flo...guna+pond+pump

The pump would sit on the bottom on the pond and pump water to the filter outside of the pond (I assuming it is waterproof in case of rain?) and then from the filter back into the pond? Just trying to figure out how everything would work together.

Thanks for the help.
