Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm has suggested that Manchester United’s Angel Di Maria could be too expensive for his club to sign.

Di Maria has been the subject of plenty of rumours regarding his future at Man United, with Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain seemingly interested in recruiting the Argentine. Lahm’s comments come at a time when business between the two clubs is fruitful, following Bastian Schweinsteiger’s move to Old Trafford.

Di Maria had a disappointing first season in Manchester but announced earlier this summer he would be staying at the club to try and fight for his place. Lahm was giving nothing away when asked about the Argentine’s future but questioned the fees that would be involved.

“I don’t know if he is a candidate. I don’t know where he will go to or if he will stay. He costs a huge amount of money. There are so many factors like salary and whatever,” he said.

“There are many other people in our club who know more about that topic than me.”

Bayern’s captain may not be giving anything away but it is obvious that this transfer story isn’t going anywhere either. Di Maria’s future has been under scrutiny since early on last season after reports he was unhappy in Manchester.

Despite his indifferent start to life at United, the club must make sure they hold on to the 27-year-old. Di Maria can change games singlehandedly, as he has proved on multiple occasions. It would be highly unwise to let him go.
