Mizoram and Tripura have over 20,000 students enrolled in the NSS units

The NSS camp organized by National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit 1 and Unit 2 of Kha Manipur College Kakching, which began from October 7, has concluded today at the college campus.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Mutum Chandrakumar said that the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University has agreed to award extra seven marks, to any student who have participated in any NSS Camp, in the entrance exam of the University. Other NE states like Mizoram and Tripura have more than 20,000 students enrolled in the NSS Units. However, Manipur has only 16,000 students. Out of these, there is lesser participation of students in the hill districts.

He further said that NSS Cell of the state had faced various inconveniences in carrying out its activities due to fund constraint. However, the situation has eased now as the government has been releasing fund for the cell regularly, he said and appealed to the students, especially in rural and hill areas to participate in the activities of NSS units.

State Liason Officer of NSS Cell, Mutum Chandrakumar, Principal of Kha Manipur College, Kshetrimayum Shamu and NCC Officer of the college and Head of Commerce Department of the college, Associate Professor Yengkhom Raju attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively. Programme Officer of NSS Unit 1 and 2 of the college and Head of Education Department, Dr Naorem Subhaschandra, Head of English Department, Pukhrambam Somarendro and Head of Botany Department,  Dr Mayanglambam Roma were also part of the concluding day.

Training classes on various topics, social service, variety programmes, film screening and quiz competitions were the main events conducted as part of the seven-day long camp. K Angrung and N Guneshwori both students of the college were declared Best Male and Best Female Camper respectively.
