The 125th Birth Anniversary of Laininghan Naoriya Phulo was observed at Lamyanba Shanglen on Tuesday organized by the Laininghan Naoriya Phulo Charitable Trust, Soibam Leikai, Wangkhei Khunou, Imphal.
Dr H Nabachandra, Chairman, Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (CHSEM), attending as the chief guest of the function expressed that people who possess leadership quality are rare and hence they are called as genius. Naoriya Phulo was one among those geniuses who dedicated to preserve the identity of the community he belonged. “Every community must have its own culture, tradition, identity and script and people need to be aware of it and must preserve it for the future generations.” Nabachandra said.
“Now Meitei Mayek has been approved by the state government and the language has been included in the syllabus of the school curriculam upto class IX. As upgraded every year, students will be appearing their HSLC Exam conducted by BSEM in 2015 in our own script. This is a fortunate step for the people of the state.” he said.
On the other hand, state government has also gave instruction s to the CHSEM to translate the Modern Indian Language (MIL) text books for class XI and XII in Meitei Mayek for those students who will be admitted in class XI in 2016. This will help to make the texts book on our script available for the students on time, Nabachandra said.
He also added that CHSEM will translate the text books only for the 27 Meitei Mayek scripts recognized by the State Government. Translating the books into our script and making the students to gain their knowledge through our script is also a step taken up to preserve our script.
President of Irabot Foundation, Th Iboyaima attending as the guest of honor of the function spoke on the contribution Naoriya Phulo has made for the society. We must be proud of a genius like Naoriya Phulo who was a revivalist of Meitei religion was born in our state. He made great contribution in preserving our script. People of the present generation need to be aware of his contribution and must support his spiritual ideology of preserving the culture, tradition, script and identity of our community.
The observation was also attended by President of Apokpa Marup Snaglen, Nk Puthiba; Deputy Director of Manipur State Archives, Dr K Sushila; Prof of History Department, MU, N Joykumar Singh; Former Minister, RV Minthing and President of All Manipur Private Schools Welfare Association, Ph Landhoni as the president and guest of honors respectively.
As a part of the observation prizes of the recitation competition held yesterday in connection with the 125th Birth Anniversary of Laininghan Naoria Phulo were also distributed. Anamika Heirangkhongbam of Nirmalabas High School, Guneshori Nongmaithem of The Sanatombi Oriented English School and Lingthingambi Moirangthem of Sacred heart Higher Secondary School were the students who secured first, second, third respectively in the competition.
Meanwhile, the 125th Birth anniversary of the late Laininghal Naoriy Phullo (Phundrei) was observed in the head quarters of Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL). The MEELAL organised function was attended by its chief Sadokpam Tomba, Yumnam Suren and Morangthem Naokhamba as President, Chief Guest and Guest of Honour. The main attraction of the function was paying floral tribute to the portrait of the late leader.
M C Meirikkhomba, the Publicity Secretary of MEELAL further stated that Laininghal Phullo established an organisation entitled Malem Apokpa Marup to revive the aged old religion, script, culture and tradition and to introduce it to the world. He was a harbinger in perseverance and propagates the ancient script. The leader, indeed, gave the ancient script as a gift to the present generation it said.
