Back in November my son and I decided we were going to be intentional on making his teacher feel special each week for the rest of the school year. Sometimes it with a note or card, a snack, or a small DIY gift. This week we chose to give her an early Valentine’s day gift. We made her a DIY Valentine’s Candy jar. The original plan was for him to do all the painting but I had so much fun using the Apple Barrel Craft Paint ended up doing the whole project!
I even took the time to create a tutorial so you could create your own! I knew you would ask! right?!?
supplies not shown above: fabric, mod podge, scrap book paper, ribbon, scissors, tape
Nancy’s teacher is recently engaged so I tried to avoid making anything with her current full initials. sS we chose to use her first initial instead!
To start you need to chose your stencil and the jar you will be using. I am using a jar form our recycle bin!
Tape your stencil to your jar, then paint in the letter. The stencil may not lay completely flat on the jar but i call that character! it’s okay to get paint on the stencil. (when the paint is dry you can reuse it over and over!)
I then covered the rest of the jar in cute little hearts. Of course I forgot to photograph this step. I began feeling the insecurities of being a bad blogger and made another mini candy jar using the same steps to show you how I created my hearts. Again, i knew you would ask.
All i did was make to lines with my brush to create the v, or heart! I love how the Apple Barrel paints are quick drying. This was helped keep my hands clean when turning the jar to cover all the sides. But don’t worry even where I did seem to paint myself it washed off easily with soap and water.
The paint is thick enough to make a solid heart but i was going for brush stroke look on this jar!
next I filled the jar with M&M’s, added a ribbon with the cutest little poem I found online. I took the multiple variations decided to meld them together and create my own. then printed it at home and attached it to a cute piece of pink card stock.
