~~  The last four years or so have been an ABSOLUTE nightmare for Rangers…..  To get a quick run down of events (and you’ll find yourself just shaking your head in amazement at how something like this could happen and what the DEVASTATING trickle down effect has been), check out their Wikipedia page and scroll down to ‘Ally McCoist, insolvency and the lower leagues’.

I spent four months at Rangers back in 1997 and trained daily with the likes of Richard Gough, Ian Durant, Barry Ferguson, Ally McCoist, Marco Negri, Rino Gattusso and Gazza…. The pride inside the changing room spilled onto the field and into the stands and around the city.  Then to have it be a landing spot for Claudio Reyna, Carlos Bocanegra, DaMarcus Beasley and Alejandro Bedoya… Hopefully one day in the near future this gets solved.

But to see Ally McCoist walk away now….. I’m not sure that day is anytime soon.

Mike Ashley, who owns Premier League side Newcastle United, already has an 8.92 per cent stake in Rangers International Football Club and the Scottish Championship side had been looking for him to extend that close to 30 per cent.

In a statement, Scottish football’s governing body said: “The Scottish FA Board convened on Tuesday, 23rd December to hear a submission from the Board of Rangers Football Club.

“This meeting was arranged in respect of a request set out in an Application to Consent to an increase in MASH Holdings Limited’s shareholding in Rangers International Football Club to a maximum of 29.9 per cent of the issued share capital.

“The Board has now carefully considered the Application and has decided, unanimously, that the Application should not be granted.

Responding to the ruling, Rangers said in a statement: “The board of Rangers Football Club are very disappointed with the SFA’s decision and we will now consider all our options.”
