Noah Horstman, PGA
Director of Instruction
Beechmont Country Club

My interest in golf became a natural progression into my current career. I started volunteering at a golf course picking up range balls in exchange for access to the course. By the time I was 12 years old I was on the course practicing and playing daily. Through high school and college, golf has been my passion. Now I am thankful to be in an industry around the sport I love, teaching and sharing the game of golf. This is the reason why I feel the need to serve on the Board of Directors for the Northern Ohio Section PGA. It is time to give back to a game that has given me so much.

Being a younger member of the PGA I am full of energy and know that I can use that energy when it comes to developing new programs and continuing to improve our current programs. I currently serve on the Player Development Committee and Teacher of the Year Awards Committee. If elected to the board I would like to focus on youth player development and growing ladies programming. My passion for helping others, dedication to grow this great game, and energetic approach makes me a great candidate.

I attended Pacific University from 2002-2006 where I was the number one man on the team all four years, earning the title of captain both my junior and senior seasons and received Northwest Conference Honors my senior year. I started working as an Assistant Professional at Centennial Golf Club in Medford, Oregon three days after graduating with a B.A. in Business, with the intention of working on my game. I realized that golf professionals do not get to play as much as you might think. Nonetheless, I was getting my foot in the door. Soon after starting at Centennial I took the Head Boys Golf Coach position at South Medford High School.

I was offered a position as an Assistant Golf Professional at Illahe Hills Country Club in the fall of 2007. Within a year and a half I earned my membership to the Professional Golfers Association (PGA). After becoming a member I knew that instruction and coaching was the direction I wanted to take my career. In 2009 I became the Head Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach at Willamette University where I coached four seasons and took both teams from last place to top three in the conference.

In 2010 I was nominated by my peers and won the Assistant Golf Professional of the Year, awarded by the Oregon Chapter PGA.

As a Head Professional/ Director of Instruction at Illahe Hills Country Club; I was nominated as the 2012 Oregon Chapter PGA Teaching Professional of the year, I became a US Kids Certified Instructor, and became certified as a NG360 (Nike Golf 360) golf specific fitness instructor. In February of 2013 I became solely the Director of Instruction where I created new and improved player development programs.

In May of 2013 I accepted the position as Director of Instruction at Beechmont Country Club where I recently finished my third season. I have introduced many new player development programs, junior academy with different levels, and ladies programs. Since joining the Northern Ohio Section I have been part of the Player Development Committee, Teacher of the Year Awards Committee, along with volunteering within the golf community. In addition I took over as the Head Golf coach at Gilmour Academy building a program with over 20 kids.

I have been married to the love of my life, Kimberly since May 21, 2011. She too loves to be outside and is starting to take up the game of golf. She is a Certified Pilates instructor and has helped with the fitness of the Willamette University Golf Team and taught many of my current students. We are blessed to have a beautiful daughter Emma, who will be one in October.

I am excited to be running for a Board of Director position with the Northern Ohio Section PGA. If selected to serve I will represent myself with the highest level of integrity and the standards of a Class A PGA Professional. I am looking forward to getting to know each member and apprentice on a more personal level. If there is anything I can help you with please do not hesitate to contact me at 971-285-6600 or by e-mail at nhorstman@beechmontcc.com.

Dear NOPGA Members,

Thank you for allowing me to provide a bio of my career as a candidate for the NOPGA Board of Directors. Just having the opportunity to be a part of the Board is an honor, and I am excited for the potential to add my knowledge, education, and motivation to the Section.

I currently reside in Painesville, Ohio and am the Father of two beautiful children. My daughter, Ella, is 10 years old and my son, Griffin, is 6.

I grew up in Stow, Ohio and graduated from Kent State University in 2002 with a degree in Sports Management. Ever since I can remember, my Mom always taught me to strive to be the best in anything I do which is something that I’ve lived by my whole life. In 2004, at the age of 24, I became a “Class A” Member of the PGA of America while also receiving the PGM Acushnet Scholarship Award for that year in the NOPGA Section. Working as an Assistant Golf Professional at Beechmont Country Club, in 2005 I became the youngest PGA Member in the Country at the time to achieve Certified Professional status within the PGA in the areas of Golf Operations and Instruction. Also that year, I was named the Northern Ohio PGA Assistant Professional of the Year. In 2007, my career path led me to Cumberland Trail Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio where I was the General Manager/Head Golf Professional for 6 full seasons. In March 2013, I was promoted within my company as the Director of Operations/CEO for Hanlin Golf Properties overseeing Cumberland Trail in Columbus and Stonewater and Little Mountain in Cleveland, all designed by the Hurdzan/Fry Design Team. The evolution of my position within Hanlin Golf Properties has taken me to my current position as Director of Golf and Member Relations of StoneWater Golf Club.

The camaraderie that I have been able to experience within the Section has been unforgettable. The group of Professionals that we have in the Northern Ohio Section has taught me more than I ever thought was possible. I have been able to experience our Section on the playing and meeting side but never on the Committee or Board side. I have always wanted to be on the Board but was also respectful to the responsibility. I wanted to insure that my experience and knowledge would be an asset to the Board and not just another body. With my knowledge of business and also my history and goals of marketing and branding, I now know that I can bring a new and exciting point-of-view to the Section.

Not many people wear the mark and logo of a PGA Professional more proudly than I do. My passion and pride that I have for the PGA is also shown in other areas that I am proud to call my own. In 2015, I organized the Inaugural Mary Pickett Memorial Charity Invitational. The support generated for this event to fight PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) was overwhelming. Our 5-year goal of raising $200,000 to go towards finding a cure for the disease got a remarkable start this year.

During all of my duties as a Golf Professional and Leader, I have also developed a unique talent in carving pumpkins. Over the past 8 years, my talents have taken me to become one of best Pumpkin Carvers in the Nation and now has become a pretty large personal business. Some of my carves have been featured on a variety of National TV Shows including SportsCenter, The Golf Channel’s Morning Drive (Jack Nicklaus), Scott Van Pelt Show on ESPN, Live From the President’s Cup, The Golf Zone with Jimmy Hanlin, and Channel 3 Cleveland Morning Show. I have made personal demo appearances at multiple venues including the Cleveland Cavs Home-Opener in 2014, Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Horseshoe Casino, and the Circleville Pumpkin Show. My website is www.illuminatedcarves.com and shows my life’s work.

Showing my peers and fellow professionals how I live my life is very important to me as well. In October 2015, I am hosting the 8th Annual Razz Invitational at Little Mountain Country Club. This very unique invitational is an event that started with 20 people and now is known state-wide and fills up every year. Although the hole formats are unique, the most unique part of this event is the celebration of the “Razz Way of Life.” My license plate has four letters on it, “R-A-Z-Z”! The “Razz Way of Life” is living every day to the fullest. It is never giving up in anything you do. It is living life like it is your last day on this Earth. It is enjoying your time with your friends playing the best game on this planet. My lifetime goal is to eventually have the “Razz Way of Life” known throughout the Nation and through Golf. People get tired of the same old scrambles on the same golf courses. Thinking outside-of-the-box is where the game of golf needs to go and I want to be a part of that transition. The Razz Invitational allows people to enjoy a unique day of golf and laughs while at the same time, promotes a life philosophy that I am very proud of.

Thank you very much for allowing me to share my bio and philosophies with you. I am very proud of what I have done in my career and will continue to strive to be the best Professional that I can be. Being selected for the NOPGA Board of Directors would be another step in my career path that I am proud of. Regardless on if I am selected or not, I will always continue to live the “Razz Way of Life”.
