September 22 is the date given by the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to unveil the party’s policy agenda for Grenada as a lead up to the next general election.

Congress Leader, Nazim Burke told reporters at a press conference that the policy agenda for the tri-island state will cover the period 2017 -2030 and beyond and will be delivered at the Trade Centre, Morne Rouge, Grand Anse.

“Mark the date on your calendar – this would be a public event”, Sen. Burke announced Monday as he assured the local media that more would be said in the coming days about the document.

According to Sen. Burke, the presentation of the NDC policy agenda to the nation “is not going to be a short-term manifesto of promises (but) it’s going to be an outline of our vision for the country”.

“We hope to tell you during this engagement where we would like to see the nation positioned by the year 2030”, he said.

“We consider this an important event not for the NDC itself but for the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique and we want to encourage as many persons as possible to attend that event. We are inviting as many persons as the Trade Centre could accommodate”, he added.

Congress has been using the past three-and-a-half years to rebuild following its humiliating 15-0 defeat in the 2013 general election to the New National Party (NNP) of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell.

The party is said to be confident of its chances in the next poll in light of the package of severe austerity measures introduced by the Mitchell government that had campaigned on promises of “delivery” of thousands of jobs and an influx of foreign investors.
