 ISLAMABAD: More than 1.793 million cases are pending in Supreme Court, high courts and in the districts courts over the country. There is shortage of 55 judges in the higher courts in the country and these posts are still lying vacant.

The details regarding vacant posts of judges in the higher courts and details of the pending cases in the courts were presented in the National Assembly on Wednesday.

Replying to a written question of Muhammad Muzammal Qureshi, minister for law and justice, Pervaiz Rasheed said that some posts of judges are lying vacant in Supreme Court and the high courts since December 31, 2013.

According to details, one post of judge is lying vacant in Supreme court of Pakistan, 15 post of judges are lying vacant in the Lahore high court in Lahore, nine posts of judges are lying vacant in Sindh high court in Karachi, two posts of judges are lying vacant in Peshawar high court Peshawar, three posts of judges are lying vacant in Balochistan high court Quetta, three posts of Islamabad high court Islamabad, one post of judge is lying vacant in district courts Sindh, three posts are lying vacant in district courts Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 10 posts of judges are lying vacant in district courts Balochistan while eight posts of judges are lying vacant in district courts Islamabad.

As many as 20480 cases are pending in Supreme Court of Pakistan, 173037 cases are pending in Lahore high court, 66475 cases are pending in high court of Sindh Karachi, 26716 cases are pending in Peshawar high court Peshawar, 4923 cases are pending in high court of Balochistan Quetta, 13387 cases are pending in Islamabad high court Islamabad.

As many as 1107634 cases are pending in the district courts of Punjab, 124190 cases are pending in the district courts of Sindh, 132762 cases are pending in the district courts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 8444 cases are pending in the district courts of Balochistan and 30300 cases are pending in the district courts of Islamabad.
