RIYADH: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has decided to support the candidacy of Muhammad Naeem Khan, the ambassador of Pakistan to KSA, for the post of assistant secretary general in Asian region at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Electoral event for the post for the tenure of 2014-2019 likely to be organised at upcoming 40th Session of OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Conakry‚ Guinea in the 2nd week of December 2013, Radio Pakistan reported.

According to reports, the ambassador called on the Adviser to the Prime on National Security and Foreign Affairs Satjat Aziz at the Foreign Office Islamabad today.

He handed over a letter signed by the Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal committing his country’s support to Pakistan’s candidature for the important post.

According to the Foreign Office Spokesman‚ several other brotherly countries from OIC have also indicated support to Ambassador Naeem Khan.

Moreover, Pakistan planned to host a Science and Technology Summit of the Organization in the first half of 2014 as being the coordinator of COMSTECH, the OIC’s Standing Committee on Science and Technology.

The reports said that the federal government of Pakistan has deeply appreciated the support of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan’s candidate.

It should be mentioned that Ambassador Khan is currently serving as Pakistan’s envoy in Riyadh and Permanent Representative to OIC in Jeddah.
