The Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg is pushing for universal internet access and has teamed up with the Bono’s one organization by the year 2020.
“I believe that achieving humanity’s world goal, internet access is very essential,” a statement that was released and signed by philanthropic organizations and high profile individuals including Melinda gates and bill gates foundation.
United Nations said that the global goals blueprint is aimed at curbing the economic and social challenges. During this week, Mark Zuckerberg was present at the United Nations to put across and discuss how important the internet is in achieving those goals.
He said that connecting the globe is a major challenge in this generation. “Today, over 50% of the world’s population has no access to the internet,” said Mark Zuckerberg.
“It is not good to anyone- even the disconnected and disempowered, as well as the other half, whose security and commerce depend mostly on having a very stable society” he added.
Mark Zuckerberg was keen to note that farmers in Africa use mobile web to track prices and inventory, refugees use smart phones to talk to their families during the holidays and women who use their phones to know much about health in South America.
According to a United Nations report, over 4 billion people or 57% of the world’s population is not connected. In most developing countries, around 35% of the population does have internet access.
It is easy to say that the world should be connected. The question is how,” said Mark Zuckerberg. “There are no silicon bullets or simple solution”
