About five Tanzanians have been reported dead during the incident which occurred on Thursday at the Hajj, where 717 people were reported dead and 800 others injured.

This tragedy took place in Mina, five kilometers from Mecca. The pilgrims were on their way to performing the ritual known as “stoning of the devil” at Jamarat which was very crowded which led to the death of about 700 pilgrims and leaving hundreds others injured.

The identity of the five people have been confirmed and are believed to be Tanzanians that is; Mwanaisha Hassan Juma, Mkungwe Suleiman Hemedi and Sefu Said Kitimla and another woman whose name was not known yet according to Sheikh Zuberi.

He also said that different reports continue to spread in the social media which cause tension to the relatives of the pilgrims and requested that all the relatives to remain calm as they continue with efforts to solve the problem.

However, the government of Saudi Arabia has been working day in day out to confirm the identity and nationality of all victims in order to provide more information to relevant countries.

The world’s largest annual gathering of people has in the past been the scene of numerous stampedes, fires and riots but this has been reducing in recent years.

This is due to the efforts of the government whereby they have spent billions of dollars upgrading and expanding the infrastructure as well as crowd control technology in Hajj.
