The acting army director, Army Public Relations, Col.Sani Usman in a statement said that over 200 Boko Haram terrorists have surrendered to Nigerian Army.

This is after the capture of the strategic town of Banki along the Nigerian border with Cameroun on Thursday this week.

Reports say that this was in line with what Nigerian army was saying that the terrorists had run out of ammunition and other logistics and were also in a state of confusion and lack of organization among themselves.

This has turned out to be a win for the military, the government and citizens in their efforts to fight terrorism in their country.

It is believed that seven Boko Haram camps were also destroyed in addition to making seven Explosive devices explode in the town by the troops who captured Banki.

The theatre commander of the operation Lafiya Dole in the north east, major general Yusha’u Mahmud Abubakar said that most of the areas that were in the hands of the insurgents can now be occupied by the public.

Destroyed bridges along Gumboru-Ngala-Maidaguri, Gombi-Garkida-Biu roads among others have started being reconstructed as the incidence of Boko Haram will be over with the full cooperation of the media and the public in general.

However, a major disaster was prevented in Maiduguri as a suspected terrorist who had planned to plant a bomb in a mosque was taken into custody, the Army Chief revealed.

He has been undergoing interrogation and providing vital information necessary to help in arresting those responsible for the multiple attacks on Maiduguri on Sunday whereby 54 people had been confirmed dead.
