Agent Geniel Amaro-Fantauzzi succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained one week earlier when he and several other agents were conducting a narcotics investigation at the April Gardens 1 public housing complex, on Carretera 917, in Las Piedras.
A subject in the complex opened fire on the agents, wounding Agent Amaro-Fantauzzi and a second agent. The man who shot them was arrested and charged with five counts of attempted murder in addition to other charges.
Agent Amaro-Fantauzzi was transported to Rio Piedras Medical Center, where he remained on life support until succumbing to his wounds.

Today came an unexpected move hits for the Rio Piedras Medical Center where convalescing one policeman who was seriously injured in Las Piedras.

GenieL Fantauzzi Amaro, assigned to the Division of Drug Humacao bullet injured while performing an intervention in the residential April Garden, located on Highway 917, in this municipality.

The bodies of the deceased police may not be donated due to spinal cord is affected by the gunshot wounds.

Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla, who had donated blood to the Agent, was expressed at the passing of Fantauzzi:

"With deep regret, we received the news of the death of the agent GenieL Fantauzzi Amaro, who was shot last Tuesday of duty. No doubt, today the Puerto Rico Police and the country lost one of its closest allies in the fight against crime. My respect and recognition to this fallen officer, whose spirit, I am sure, will live on in each of the security officers who risk their lives every day. Wilma and I raise a prayer to the Almighty for eternal rest. To his family, we wish you peace and strength to overcome this difficult time. "

Starting tomorrow will be observed three days of mourning, so the flags in public offices will be flown at half mast.

Previously had it issued conflicting reports about the health condition of Agent GenieL Amaro Fantauzzi, the victim’s father, Eugene Amaro, between suffering and pain, reported that his son, shot in a residential Las Piedras, still alive in the Rio Piedras Medical Center.

The press director of Medical Services Administration (ASEM) of Rio Piedras Medical Center confirmed the information provided by the parent and said there was a diagnosis of brain death.
