Police shot tear gas at unruly crowds along the Champs Elysees in Paris after France lost the Euro 2016 final 1-0 to Portugal in overtime.

Police also broke up crowds along the Arc de Triomphe.

Meanwhile, Portugal fans in Lisbon and Paris celebrated the win – after substitute Eder’s goal that won the game.

It’s the first time Portugal secured the European Championship title.

“It was amazing… Cristiano Ronaldo was forced to leave in the first few minutes, but we demonstrate that we are a family. Together we can win, we can make it, and we are champions.”

Riot police in Paris were already in full force before the game was even over, firing tear gas at fans who tried to force their way into a “fan zone” at the base of the Eiffel Tower, which had reached capacity.
