If you’ve been around here for a bit, you already know about Aliquid Lacquer‘s When In Rome Collection- a monthly polish series based on Roman Holidays. Today I have the April shade for you- Cerealia.
Aliquid Lacquer Cerealia is described as a light silvery green packed with silver glass flecks and scattered holographic microglitter. Three coats. The formula was wonderful, thick enough that it stays where you put it but not so thick that it’s difficult to apply. Here’s some information about the inspiration from the maker:
Many Roman agricultural festivals took place in April, but the biggest was the Cerealia in honor of Ceres. Ceres was the goddess of grain, farming, fertility, women and marriage, as well as the chief patron deity of the plebeians (working-class citizens). Her daughter Proserpina lived in the underworld for half the year and returned to Ceres every spring.
Cerealia celebrated the return of Proserpina and the beginning of spring. It lasted for seven days and included the sacrifice of sows, horse races and other sporting events, and theatrical performances. At night, torches were tied to the tails of foxes, which were then released into the stadium. This ritual might have symbolized the protection of crops from vermin and disease.
Overall, I think this is one of my favorite polishes she’s released to date! I know I keep saying that about her When In Rome polishes but it’s true! I’m kind of sad it gave me a bit of lobster hands in photos because it is super pretty in person, just trust me! This polish releases today in her shop, so head on over and pick up a bottle if you’d like!
