Dominic Malan appointed group MD for Carat SSA

Carat has announced the appointment of Dominic Malan as group managing director for Carat Sub Saharan Africa, after joining the business as strategy and client Director for Dentsu Aegis Network in July 2014. Malan will be taking over the reins from Quinton Jones, the exiting managing director, and will start his new position from 1 September 2015.

Malan has over 15 years of marketing and media experience across industries and has a proven track record of improving business performance across Sub Saharan Africa. While at Diageo and Brandhouse, he worked with their London and Amsterdam teams across a host of premium brands where he won the Johnnie Walker Pioneer Award in 2013 and the Diageo Africa Marketing Brilliance Award. With Malan’s understanding of African media and the marketing landscape and with his charismatic leadership, he’ll continue to grow the Carat business into 2016 and beyond.

Malan will be supported by Celia Collins who as the managing director of Carat Johannesburg (JHB) will continue to develop that market. Lerina Bierman, who has been with Carat for seven years, will assume the role of managing director in Cape Town.

“We would like to thank Quinton Jones for his seven years as group managing director for Carat. His collaborative drive and leadership has positioned Carat as one of the top media agencies in Africa. I am confident that Dominic’s wealth of experience will give the business the continued momentum to expand its growth across Sub Saharan Africa,” said Dawn Rowlands, CEO Dentsu Aegis Network SSA.

TLC promotes talent from within

Primedia Unlimited’s targeted lifestyle communications business, TLC, has announced the promotion of Brendon Crowther to coastal sales manager and Warren Dugmore to inland sales manager.

“Both Warren and Brendon have proved themselves as valuable members of TLC over the past few years and I have no doubt the respective teams will continue to prosper under their guidance,” says Greg Bruwer, joint managing director.

As coastal sales manager, Crowther will be responsible for client management and sales in the Western Cape and KwaZulu Natal regions while Dugmore will oversee the same responsibilities in the remaining regions.

“Having all regions covered allows the teams to focus on area specific campaigns and to fully understand client communication objectives which can be applied to the relevant TLC advertising platforms,” says Bruwer.

Both made a considerable impact on the bottom line of what is one of Primedia Unlimited’s most successful business units.

Geoff Cohen resigns from Media24 digital

Geoff Cohen, general manager of Media24’s digital division, has resigned after eight years in the position. Cohen will be pursuing his own digital interests. His departure follows that of Lisa McLeod, the media giant’s head of digital.

“We want to thank him sincerely for his contribution and dedicated service and wish him everything of the best,” said CEO Esmaré Weideman. Cohen will leave at the end of September.

“My time here has been filled with learnings and opportunity and I look forward to seeing the digital businesses continue to grow from strength to strength in what is a highly exciting and furiously competitive time,” Cohen said.

Media24 will announce new appointments in its digital businesses soon, the company said.

Hisense kicks off technical sponsorship of two sports programmes on Cape Town TV

After recently celebrating the second birthday of its factory in Atlantis, Chinese electronics manufacturer Hisense has now further enhanced its commitment to the Western Cape. The company is coming on board as technical sponsor for two independently produced sports shows on Cape Town TV: Cape Rugby TV and Sports Federation TV.

Cape Rugby TV is an award-winning show about club rugby in the Western Cape, while Sports Federation TV produces local sports content for the Federations of the Western Province Sports Council. The shows feature weekly on Cape Town TV, a channel that is broadcast free-to-air in Cape Town and nationally on DStv Channel 263.

Both shows will receive the latest Hisense Ultra High Definition (UHD) televisions, to enhance background graphics and videos used in the production of the shows. Hisense’s UHD televisions boast four times the resolution of standard HD televisions, ensuring brilliant picture quality and outstanding image clarity.

Cape Rugby TV is also set to give away various Hisense mobile products on a weekly basis, adding further excitement to the show.

Says Cape Rugby TV Producer, JP Naudé, “We are thrilled to have Hisense on board as a technical partner. As one of Cape Town TV’s top shows, this sponsorship of Ultra High Definition televisions enables much improved background graphics which will greatly enhance the viewers’ experience.”
