Who’s making moves
PRISA expands throughout Southern Africa
The Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA) is expanding rapidly, enhancing professionalism in the public relations and communication industry throughout Southern Africa. Building on a well-established 55-year history in the industry, PRISA recently expanded into the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, Limpopo and Botswana.
In November 2013, regional chairperson Dr J.R Tungay, who was a co-founder of PRISA in Natal 53 years ago, called a meeting for those interested in public relations in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, including current PRISA members operating in the Midlands, namely Brenda Eckstein of BE International, Dee Viney of Real Communications and Robert Hicken of Puzzle Consulting, as well as local public relations officers who are not, as yet, members of PRISA. The meeting resulted in the establishment of the Midlands and Mountains PR Network, with 16 members.
Also in November, Limpopo public relations and communication management professionals gathered at Fusion Boutique in Polokwane for the relaunch of PRISA in the region, under the theme “Reclaiming our profession and remaining relevant in society”. The gathering attracted current members, prospective members, members of the business community and the media. PRISA President-elect, Mr Lungile Lose, APR, congratulated Limpopo on its effort to resuscitate an active professional body in the province.
The region will also contribute towards skills development through strategic partnerships with the Universities of Limpopo, Venda and South Africa and the establishment of a regional student chapter supported through mentoring programmes.
November also saw PRISA executive dAirector, Adele Paulsen, attending a ‘Meet and Greet Session’ with the public relations, communications and marketing communications practitioners from various sectors in Botswana.
Mosaic helps Habari map the Rainbow Nation
Habari Media has announced its partnership with P:Cubed, a specialist analytically-driven marketing services provider, to incorporate a new consumer classification system called Mosaic SA into Habari’s mobile and mailer database.
This partnership sees the unification of two leaders in their respective fields – Habari Media as a dynamic and award-winning multimedia sales house in Africa, and Mosaic, the most advanced and in-depth consumer segmentation tool available in South Africa.
“The traditional LSM model has served us well over the years, but the reality is that a population as diverse as South Africa cannot be classified into ten groups. It’s too simplistic, and it fails to capture many of the lifestyle nuances that have increasingly begun to define certain sectors of society,” says Habari Media MD Wayne Bischoff.
In a nutshell, Mosaic SA is a neighbourhood consumer lifestyle segmentation system that provides a 360-degree view of consumer lifestyles by classifying the whole of South Africa into 48 unique segments and 12 overarching groups. It is created from over 140 different data variables, using 13 million South African households, the National Census database across 80 000 enumerated areas, combined with predictive insights, property characteristics and summarised credit data.
Hansgrohe Africa joins forces with Absa Cape Epic for the third year
Annually, Hansgrohe Africa joins forces with the Absa Cape Epic as the official shower accessories sponsor. Currently in its third year running, all the riders and crew members who partake in the exhilarating eight day event have the pleasure of using the shower trucks at the end of a long day. The Hansgrohe shower trucks are equipped with EcoSmart overhead showers to ensure a 75% water saving.
“The Absa Cape Epic is the most amazing mountain bike race in the world and we are thrilled to be a part of the action again. One of our main objectives other than providing the riders with a shower at the end of each stage – was to illustrate how using the EcoSmart overhead showers could save water on a big scale event without jeopardising the quality of the showers, but still heightening the experience,” says Anthony Mederer, managing director of Hansgrohe South Africa.
Hansgrohe South Africa is also a proud sponsor of four rider teams at the Absa Cape Epic made up of Amanda Brookes, Robert Vogel, Dennis Mack, Dudley Turner, Desmond Smith, Leon Tobias, Dan Forsyth and Duane Searle.
