Dias y Flores Community Garden, East Village, NY 2014 by George Hirose.
Loisaida United Neighborhood Gardens (LUNGS) hosts their 5th Annual Harvest Arts Festival this weekend in almost 50 community gardens on Saturday, September 24 and Sunday, September 25, 2016. Each garden designs its own programing and it’s a fun event to make a walking tour out of — events include music, dance, fashion, performance, films, photography, painting, sculpture, theater, dance parties, poetry and comedy as well as environmental workshops and yoga.
On Friday, the opening night features a free concert by jazz duo Lisala Beatty and Trudy Silver at All People’s Garden (293-295 E. 3rd St.) at 5:00 pm, followed by a big kickoff party at La Plaza Cultural (corner of 9th Street and Ave. C).
Highlights at the closing night party on Sunday include photographer George Hirose will present his latest photos from his ongoing project “Midnight in the Garden” (formerly “Magic Gardens”), an ongoing project documenting all of the East Village and Lower East Side Gardens (over 50) for an eventual publication. Hirose will speak at 6:30p at Campos Garden (south side of East 12th near Avenue C) followed by a dance party with live music by LES legend Ray
Santiago.
