Packaging machinery has become a very important piece of equipment for many businesses, as they can dramatically cut the time of packaging materials, ready for them to be shipped off to their destination.

Carton Sealers and erectors are very important, even though they are what people would class as secondary packaging. Primary packaging is the material that is closest to the product e.g. a moisturising cream tub would be classed as the primary packaging of the product and the box would be identified as the secondary packaging phase of the product.

Secondary Packaging

Cartons in terms of packaging are the most frequently used material that is used for secondary packaging across all items and products. When you think of the vast range of materials that can be classed as secondary such as, cardboard and plastics for packaging products like food, drinks and a variety of other additional product types then it’s no wonder that many businesses require packaging machinery to enable orders to be fulfilled on-time and efficiently.

Varied Packaging Specifications

Different sized carton packaging machinery is needed in order to meet the various sizes and specifications for each of the product types. Also depending on a business’s goal and objective, this too can impact upon how much investment is needed to be made by a business for example; a business that needs to pack small individual products will require a machine that enables the business to achieve this.

Carton packaging machinery used across many industries and sectors can be classified into two separate category types; carton erector’s and carton sealing machines.

Carton Erectors

Carton erector machines are also known as box erectors. Carton erectors are used to produce a flat-packed cardboard box or carton of an appropriate shape, which is then sealed from the bottom and sides with a type of tape. The box is then ready to be packed with a product(s). There are manual and automatic carton erector machines available. The automatic carton erector eliminates the requirement to manually pre-erect boxes or cartons before packaging. This means that businesses can saves vast amounts of space, employee’s time and in turn dramatically increases productivity levels.

Carton Sealers

The cartons that have been filled with a product(s) then needs to be sealed securely, using either a type of tape or strong glue in order to ensure that the box stays sealed through transit.

Businesses that require packaging a large number of boxes will use at least one carton sealer due to the time it would take to process if boxes were to be sealed manually.

There are different sized carton sealers available, which again depends on what is required to be undertaken by the business. In addition to the different sized carton sealers, the machines are also available in a variety of specifications and configurations in order for manufacturers and businesses to customize the packaging in order to meet packaging requirements.

Some of the most popular carton sealing machines for packaging includes; automatic carton sealers, carton folding sealers, semi-automatic carton sealers, carton underside sealers and automatic carton flap-folding sealers.
