I’m in quite an uncomfortable stage in the pregnancy and I spent a lot of time dodging the “how are you feeling?” question because I don’t want to be that lady who launches into her chronic sleeplessness or backaches or contractions or DEAR GOD WHY ARE MY RIBS BURNING ALL THE LIVELONG DAY just because she was asked a harmless question. Let’s just say it’s probably obvious how I’m feeling because the other day as I was waddling down the sidewalk a woman who was wasted out of her mind on drugs told me she felt bad for me. She was pushing a shopping cart full of aluminium cans down the street. And she felt sorry for me.

I’m also at the stage where I can’t get away with wearing just any old shirt anymore, either. It has to be really long  to fully cover me otherwise I am blinding innocent bystanders with a cummerbund of white belly. Not to mention my belly getting really cold. I’m down to a couple of tunic shirts and a handful of maternity items.

I also made it back to Old Navy to use a gift card Angela gave me for my birthday back in October. I tend to hoard gift cards, even if I know exactly what I want to spend them on, because I have this mentality that I need to save them in case of emergency. It’s weird. I’m weird. I know. But seeing as how I had worn my other pants until I wore a hole in the knee, and Anthony convinced me that that was a legit Old Navy Emergency, we went and bought two pairs of leggings and I saved the rest of my gift card in the event that the Apocalypse were to happen and I needed a cardi.

I had also had a rough day earlier, so Anthony took me to buy new boots because I’ve needed them for about a year and we had a gift card left over from the holidays. We walked into the store only to find two options of boots and row upon row of strappy sandals. Given the day I had and my hormonal emotional state I nearly flipped over the nearest display, but Anthony took me by the hand and led me to the boots and I finally got their pair of cowboy boots I’d always wanted.

Elias has been moving around like crazy lately, especially at night when his movement is so intense it distorts my perfect sphere of a belly. Isobel has rarely been patient enough to wait to feel kicks or movements, but they are so strong now that there is no ignoring his movements. Squirrelly was comfortably sitting on my belly while I watched TV recently when Elias kicked so hard he raised her an inch or two off my stomach. Squirrelly was so offended she left. I had Isobel put her hand on my belly during one of his nightly zumba sessions and she became thrilled to actually feel him kick and turn and move around. She giggled manically for a half and hour while Elias went about his business. Favorite pregnancy memory by far.

While shopping for decorations and supplies for Anthony’s party he told me of his desire to have a treasure chest overflowing with coins and jewels and necklaces. This was exciting news for me because that meant I could trawl through piles of jewelry in thrift stores. We got most of the jewelry at the Catholic thrift store on their half off day, so at most we paid $1.50. Excellent. The necklace I’m wearing was one of those finds. It’s one necklace with three gold chains of varying widths and textures. I also got the sweet brown American Tourister bag there (half off! yeah!) and it still had the original owner’s name and address in the luggage tag. I love finding that sort of thing, and I can’t help but wonder about the places this bag went. It’s a bit large for a day-to-day purse, but it fits my camera and Isobel’s water in it perfectly, so it works as an adventuring sort of bag.

The sweater is one of my all-time favorites, and although I’ve been looking for years I’ve never personally found one while thrifting, so years ago I bought it from a vintage seller on Etsy. I’ve never regretted it and I love that I can add to my collection online if I need to.

Isobel’s outfit is all thrifted and hand-me-downs. She’s wearing my bubblegum necklace, which I love despite my intense hatred of actual bubble gum. While looking for treasure for Anthony’s hoard we found these glittery shoes for a few bucks at Goodwill. They are so blingy we probably could have added them to the chest.
